$3.699-$4.399, depending on how close to the freeway, or how nice the neighborhood, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

There is always some cock and bull story to explain why prices are so high in the middle of an oil glut. What it boils down to is the rich are reaping enormous profits and the environmental wackos want us to all walk so high prices work out well for those two groups and they seem to be the ones that are running things.

$3.599 in Southwest Iowa. So it's $3.60, I've yet to see 0.9 cents.

  22. Oil companies make like 9 cents a gallon in profit.

State and Fed taxes each are almost always more than that.

Overprinting of money by the Fed is a good part of why gas is $3-$5 and not $1-$3, because oil is traded in dollars worldwide (although who knows for how much longer).

The rest is supply, demand, and it varies by what blends they have to make to keep the environmental cases happy.

A lot of the price variation quoted here can be accounted to the differences in state taxes. But not all of it. Seems like big metro areas are always higher.
