It is the same thing as this,.... So when you go out for Halloween,... you can go as a Flathead too !
Some one with a lot of money looks kool but does it ever go any farther than on an of the trailer I believe in driving them no mater the cost thats what we have insurance for
If people are so embarrassed to have a belly button engine, why not spent the money for something else instead of wasting money only to fool 10 year old kids? I dont get it.
i think o'brien truckers makes them. they're expensive enough you might as well just build a flattie!
It's hard to believe that anyone who cares about hot rods would install these on an OHV engine. Aside from the actual surface, they do nothing to make the sbc look like a flathead - they're tall enough to hide half the carb, you have spark plug wires all over the place. Only thing hard to imagine than an idiot installing these is someone who thought manufacturing them would fill a large gap in the "we need some" arena of dress-up goodies. Maybe the gold-chainers who only know how to buy crate motors (hence being unable to actually build a flathead of their own), are the sold source of the user-end of these silly items. dj
wow...several spelling errors/typos - but I have faith that the gist of the message will get through. I should proofread BEFORE posting...not after. lo siento mucho dj
My Flatty starts and runs everyday. Original, never rebuilt, 60 years young. I've even driven it when it was 20 degrees outside. (and it's still 6 volt) JW
I think Garlits makes a nice Faux Injector cover for the carbs that would really dress this baby up nice for only another couple of grand,ha,ha.......Ooooohhh, shiney!
So here's a little piece of rod and custom accessory history for the historians out there.. About 15 years ago (well before the traditional scene was anywhere near what it is today) a guy in the Mid-West, who had a friend who was a pattern maker, had some ideas of products and tooled up to make these SBC Flatheads valve covers. To round out his offering he would buy finned cast aluminum air cleaners, coil covers, regulator covers, radiator cap covers, etc. So one day I notice he hasn't paid me for a while and I call to see if he'd lost his invoice. His son answers the phone and tells me that his dad died at Christmas and that his ex wife is the executor of the estate - which was less that what he owed folks. We made a deal that was helpful to them and kept the castings and tooling from heading to the dumpster. So I've never had to cast any of these and I still probably have a lifetime supply. BTW, Wonder why the guy above didn't run his spark plug wires behind the headers to hide them? I saw a pair on a blue 1940 sedan at Louisville - even I had to take a second glance because all of the real wires and headers were hidden in the fat fender engine compartment. BTW2 - They don't come polished like this guy's either. Happy Truckin', Dennis
