A close friend dropped off a large folder of early clippings from a local club in the late 50's.
The club was The Playboys Rod and Custom club and was based in Enid OK.
So, if you think hot rodding in the fifties was limited to the west coast check it out.
A few of the original members are still around including my freind Ed Pouge who loaned me the pics.
    Enjoy.[IMG]

The club was active for a long time. I grew up a mile south of Vance AFB. I would ride my bike to go. Saw Eddie Hills twin engine Pontiac rail run there.

  6. I think everyone that collects old magazines has that same issue of HRM! I like how they featured clubs and strips around the country

The 1957 pics are from Kagelmann, a WWII era air strip by the Great Salt Plains near Jet OK.

Any idea who Jim Clothier is, or was? He might be a distant relative......We have the same last name, which is not very common.

I just spent a few minutes looking on the internet. Jim Chance Clothier was born May 23, 1928 and passed away September 22, 1970 at the age of 42. He is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, OK.
His father was Ralph Clothier, his mother Julia Edna Clarkson Clothier. Siblings were Faith Hope Clothier, Bernard M. Clothier, Hurshul P. Clothier ( a really good western swing fiddle player and band leader), Joyce Clothier Windler, and Buddy Eugene Clothier.
