the idea is that they won't see it long enough to critique the bodywork

Nice build thread, I have been following it on another forum, just spotted it here! I would love to do something similar one day. Drag week looks like a lot of fun, it would be awesome to come over for it some time!

PS, I vote the car is painted the original blue, if you can make it work for your theme :)

Jim, I have always liked this color. My old '67 300 Deluxe:

Would give the car a look of someone getting their grandma's old car and just hopping it up.

I'm sure that whatever you choose it will be great.

Wish I could move that fast on my builds.

Since you are having a hard time deciding you could go the other way and do some Panel Paniting and a little lace and some Candies and some flake :) or not.(hahaha)

Ok...back to work....I did more sanding and priming, the outside is ready for it's final sand and paint. But first I need to do some work inside. I finished up the bodywork on the floor, and sanded the rest of the inside. Plan to shoot it in crappy red oxide tomorrow morning. We'll see what happens. I'll do the upper parts first, then remove the plastic and do the floor, hopefully it will work out ok.

  9. Looks good, you going to paint the inside same as the outside or just a generic white or something?

  10. Love this build, not a 'everything is perfect' show build but a real, 'back in the day' type build (ok, it's still probably better than most you saw back then... LOL) with just the right 'flavor'. Great job!

I been out of town, playing with robots...but back to work. Finished priming the firewall, and shot it, the dash, and jambs. I guess the color is going to be Roman Red, since that's what I sprayed.

    Thanks!

I used Nason acrylic enamel. It's catalyzed. Kind of modern, but at least it's not urethane. The color in the pictures is way too red...it's really an orange red. Something about the fluorescent lights.

I was looking at the paint after it sat for a few hours...looks like I'm finally learning how to spray on paint. Didn't see any runs, and it has very little orange peel. Of course, this is the parts that don't really show...I have plenty of opportunity to screw it up before I'm finished

Can't believe I first just saw this today. Going to be killer. Just curios does your 55 weigh around 3800#? Will this weigh around 3000#?

55 is around 3700, this hopefully will be under 2800. I have a spreadsheet that I'm using to guestimate the weight....says 2500 with lots of things only approximate, or that I forgot.

Is that the same red as your '55? Where does one find vintage paint?

This is 62 chevy red. You can find acrylic lacquer on the internet...can't find it at my local paint store, and also I'm also too lazy to use it. Like everyone else, I use the materials and techniques that I'm comfortable with.

Good old racecar red, always a popular choice. Looks good. Is a white (India Ivory?)roof an option, kinda keeping with the stable colors of the '55?

A white roof is an option, but I'm not going to do it on this one. My 57 suburban has a white roof too.
