I've been gathering addresses for possible places to stop by during our short stay in calif. for the GNRS. No way we'll get to all of them, but who knows. Gotta leave some time for the show after all I'd appreciate it if any of you guys that are local could review this list and give me any feed back as to wrong addresses, places not worth visiting, other places that should be on the list, etc. The reason for the addresses is so that they can be entered in the portable GPS we'll have with us. Hope this is helpful to others that are making the trip. Thanks in advance, Dennis (Leaving in two days !!) how about jonson motors in pasadena http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=johnson+motors+pasadena&btnG=Search
If you make it to Mooneyes you should stop by the Drag 'N Shop in Santa Fe Springs. Cool shop, good people, easy to talk to. Here is the business card and a few of the cars they have built.
Dennis, did you get my P.M. that I might be at the shop early Friday, before the show. If you are in the area call information to get the shop number. Hope you can come by. Jimmy White Circle City Hot Rods
Hey Dennis...thanks for the address list. I am assuming you will have a booth at the show?....cya there...hatch
I see that you are staying at the Ontario Marriot. It happens that the SCTA Banquet is at that hotel on Saturday night. DW
Nope, didn't have any idea that was there Dan - and the guy I'm going with (insert snide comments now - I'm actually going with a dozen guys) just bought the Thacker & Shine roadster and I'm sure he'd like to know that. Is it for members only, pre-registration, open to the public, nice to do, gotta do, well you get the idea........
While there, don't forget to say hi at the HAMB meet around noon either next to The Shifters or being at the Shifters booth itself. KNUX!
I'm offering my help Al, but with a dozen guys in two vans it's probably going to be more like mob rule
Justice Bros. is a must see. Call ahead if you can and ask if Ed can give your group a guided tour. He loves it and will bend your ear as long as you'll let him, with stories of racing and the cars in the museum. CW Moss, The Early Ford Store and the Peterson also get my recommendation. I'd skip Barris's place unless you like to look at movie and TV show props, posters, and toys. The rest of them I could take or leave but I'm a little spoiled having them all in my own backyard.
Thanks for the post.......being a life long mass resident, Ive always wanted to visit mooneyes and have my picture taken in front of those big ol'ass eyes Ive seen in the catalogs through the years....tacky maybe but hey, as they say, simple minds.....will also visit the petersen museum friday morning --- thanks for the good post and all the feedback
The Justice Bros. is only open weekdays 'til 5. So maybe do that on Friday. Then Autobooks is a definte stop, that's open 'til 6. Then go to Bob's Bigboy right around the corner, for cruise night. Get up early for Donut Derelicts, then head back up to Pomona.
if you want to hit up a classic car junkyard you can try to hit Memory Lane, it's in Wilmington by long beach. i've only been to the new location once and that was when they had just moved their and it was still getting set up, they should be fully stocked now. might be nice to see some NICE RUST FREE california parts for a change =) a bit pricey but may be worth a look???
You can try So. Cal. Speed shop in Pomona or depending on your mood, If you go to Mooneyes you can always stop at the Holiday (down the street from Moon) You'll have some stories to tell back home...Thats for sure!
Hey Dennis, It looks like our lists are pretty much identical. I passed mine on to SSSR Steve, Moe & Bob also. I'm sure I'll see you guys out there. Have a safe trip. LSM
Sorry, the banquet(food part) is by pre-purchase tickets. You can go in, get a couple of drinks and hang for a while though. The guy who does the kinda official SCTA meet tapes/DVDs is there with a season wrap up video, plus he has his wares for sale. I had the pleasure of meeting the gentleman who bought the roadster at the Nov. lakes meet, seems like a nice guy. Real enthusiastic about LSR, my kind of people. How to bump into you guys at the show, DW
Well, how about a report? A review? I'm heading out to LA myself in a couple of weeks and are looking for things to do. Looks like the start to a great list. What wasn't worth your time? Did you go anywhere cool that wasn't on the list
Hi there....I was one of the twelve...I am also Dennis' son in law....I would say that the Justice Bros. is a MUST....great place...Ed sr is a hoot....Moon...Bobs big boy....Donut Deralicts...Kugal....So-Cal...all were great....Also if you can get there...Walden Speed shop....We had a Blast....The joke of our trip was Dennis and I working the rooms...Me for Borgeson and Him For OBT....I would go back in a hartbeat....
