Yes, that is not like any other 58 I have seen. Appears it is a BelAir with some cool mods and a couple that I could do without. Overall I like it, but it definitely is different.

Granted it's a really poor picture, but this '58 was at a local show and has a lot of the same custom touches I'd like to add to my '58. Tube grille, shaved hood/trunk/fender top ornaments and door handles, spotlights and lake pipes, rear quarter trim on the front fenders to clean up the side trim, ect. Sat just right too, low, but not "laying frame" dork low.

It had some chrome wheels on it that were a little off, but overall a great looking mild custom '58.

I like the mild custom approach too. I've been trying to think of a custom grille for mine and haven't come up with something that would be somewhat original yet.

Went to the KKOA Ledsled Spectacular in Salina, KS last weekend and I gotta say that there were more 58's there than I had ever seen at one single show. Must be the year of the 58!! I counted 12 of them, and mine wasn't even one of them since it is still apart in the garage with the head off. I would upload pics, but for some reason since my last iPhone update it kicks me off when I go to do it.

Crappy pic, but this is my friend's son at 16 with his first car. Stored since late 60s. Just followed him to Red Deer, 3 hrs on the highway looking cool

The ivory colored one above with the Oldsmobile (?) grille insert is beautiful and sits perfectly. Some of the other examples shown are great looking cars with bling-bling SUV wheels so tacky you'd think they were photoshopped into place. Good pics though.

Love the 58's. I think they need W motors not big rats that are so common!

  22. I remember my old spinster aunt had a black '58 Del Ray,283 with a 3 speed on the column.

Back in the mid 60's I use to drive her to the grocery store once a week in her car after she could no longer drive.

After she passed away she left it to the lady that took care of her. HRP

    Yes, Florida.

  24. Thanks! Haven't been to FL in many years, not since the kids were real young. Went to Disney World then. Winter's coming in a few months, seems like a good time to go back and see the new attractions. Maybe stop at the Garlits Museum, too!

Different in a bad way unfortunately.

Lets start with the chop, that's too low in the front and has an awkward crown above the rear window. The omission of the 2 pieces of the rest of the 3 piece rear glass also makes for an awkward look. The use of the 57 Olds side trim is a cool touch, but what appears to be a shortened decklid to fit a moulded continental kit is an absolute abomination. Continental kits can be devise here on the HAMB, and I've gone on record as a supporter in the right instances, but one should NEVER shorten the decklid to fit it. If the owner wanted to do a moulded kit, the factory quarters should have been extended to do it, not left intact and borrow from the trunk, ie the Larry Ernst Chevy. The conversion van trim ring is the topper on the shit-sandwich. It's almost as if the owner wanted a 57 Olds, but couldn't afford one, so one got created out of a 58 Chevy. Pass

Nice looking Belair, it just needs to be dropped a couple inches all the way around to look very good to me.
