Went to the NSRA Nats South in Knoxville today held for the 44th time at Chilhowee Park Fair Grounds. First day turn out seemed down from years past, and HAMB qualified cars were sparse. The swap meet was 1/4 of what it used to be as far as vintage treasures. But I did see some traditional cars cars I would not mind having in my driveway. Here are a few of the best (cars not photos). I am going back tomorrow, hopefully a better turnout and more pictures. 20180504_100629.jpg 20180504_095203.jpg 20180504_100654.jpg 20180504_095227.jpg 20180504_100719.jpg 20180504_100831.jpg 20180504_120440.jpg 20180504_121639.jpg 20180504_122631.jpg 20180504_124241.jpg 20180504_124440.jpg 20180504_122433.jpg 20180504_121618.jpg 20180504_122303.jpg 20180504_102949.jpg 20180504_115730.jpg

A fan of the open cars I see, good man.

That black 36 Roadster is the shit. I talked to him quite a bit at the frog follies.

    Keep the pics coming.

  3. Thanks for posting your pics. I went and only took a couple, one of a MGBGT with a SBF:eek:! The swap meet and the car count was miniscule as you said. There weren't but about 20 cars on the tunnel side. Looks like NSRA is trying to emulate GG's with the rent-a-car gymkana.
For us flathead lovers, check this out:
21 stud Eddie Meyer heads in great shape with Edmunds intake and carbs, aluminum flywheel and chromed oil filter. $500!
(went to a HAMBer who shall remain anonymous.) Let the hate begin.

Looks like the Nats South is going the way of the dodo bird & it's a shame. Knoxville was always at the top of our list. We never missed it. But the greedy powers to be at NSRA wouldn't follow the old adage of "if it isn't broken don't fix it". Well, they tried "fixing" it & broke the hell outa it. We were told several years ago by NSRA officials "would we rather park next to an empty space or a cool chopped Merc' custom? It seems to be the empty space. And trying to out good guy the Good Guys, they're rolling 30 year cut off is asinine. If I want to look at '70 & 80's cars I'll go to the nearest Walmart parking lot. It's said that traditional street rodding has run it's course & dying off. We aren't dead yet but the NSRA keeps shoveling dirt in our faces.

  8. Nice set of pictures. How often do you see two '40 convertibles at one show?

Too bad the Nats South used be one of our favorite shows. Lawn chair events soon will be extinct.

I went back again today, was saw a few more HAMB friendlies and a few more border line for the HAMB but still interesting cars. I will start off with two amazingly similar 49 and 50 coupes. 1.jpg 3.jpg 20180505_094733.jpg 20180505_094847.jpg 20180505_103607.jpg 20180505_103621.jpg 20180505_104006.jpg 20180505_104104.jpg 20180505_104508.jpg 20180505_105226.jpg More to follow soon.

I was in Knoxville for the week on unrelated business and stopped by the show on Friday morning. Saw everything twice and did a autocross ride along by 1030. There was some real nice cars there but I'm glad I didn't make a special trip just to see the show . The show fields are spread out ,but it didn't seem like there was anything near the 3000 cars advertised.

The Knoxville newspaper stated that there were 1700 cars, but I think they were probably quoting the number of registered entries, if that was the case then they had a lot of no shows. It seemed to me more like the hundreds instead of the thousands!

Thanks Garage for bringing what caught your eye to Ontario.

  22. I talked to one of the NSRA officials Sunday and he said last time he looked it was 1501 registered and about 100 less than last year.HRP

What a gorgeous group of cars. The 49 & 50 Coupes however are stunning. That body style is timeless.

I've loved these cars since I was 12 years old. My brother had one in about 1964 that was basically a nice stocker. The brother of my best friend at the time had a 49 coupe with a 421 Pontiac, dual fours and four speed. The engine was set back 15%. What a bitchen (and really) fast car!

  28. The two black coupes were stunning but the owners choice of wheels could have been better. HRP

Thanks for the great photos. All of the meets I attend are down in car counts from previous times. It's just a sign of the times. These events have to increase the cut-off dates to increase the attendance to pay the bills. I just wrote an article on "Where have all the Old Fords Gone?"
