Zenith Carbs 1.JPG Zenith Carbs 2.JPG

I was at an estate sale last weekend when I came across this stash of Zenith 1bbl carbs (that look to never have been installed) under a workbench. It was the last day of the sale and everything was 75% off, so I bought the whole shebang in the hopes that at least one might be a carb I could actually use.

After digging around on the internet when I got home, this is what I could find out based on the ID tags:

Carb #1: Carb Assy #11780, Carb Model 228BV11, Customer Name GMC, Customer Part #2332430, 248 c.i. “Economy” , SAE2 Bolt Pattern

Carb #2: Carb Assy #11963, Carb Model 228BV11, Customer Name GMC, Customer Part #2341685, 270 c.i. , SAE2 Bolt Pattern

Carb #3: Carb Assy #11475B, Carb Model 228AV11(or X11?), Replacement, One website lists it as a replacement for a Divco Truck , Continental F6226 (226c.i.), Hercules QXD-3(230 c.i.), SAE2 Bolt Pattern slotted out to SAE3

Carb #4: Carb Assy #11480A, Carb Model 228AV12, Replacement, One website lists it as a replacement for a Hercules JXLD GO-339 (339c.i.), SAE3 Bolt Pattern

Carb #5: Carb Assy #S1264, Carb Model 28AV12, Customer Name Diamond T, Customer Part #N10509A, Hercules JXD (320 c.i.) , SAE3 Bolt Pattern

I have a 235ci Chevy engine that I plan to use in a roadster project; would any of these carbs work for this engine in the following scenarios?

Scenario 1: I already have an old Fenton dual 1bbl 216 Manifold with the smaller intake ports adapted for the 235 head. Could Carbs 1 and 2 be used on this setup? From what I read on an old Zenith Spec. sheet, the only difference between the two appears to be different sized Discharge Jets, Power Jet Valves, and Well Vent Jets. How hard would it be to make these carbs the same? Or would they still flow too much even if they were both put to the “economy” 248c.i. GMC configuration?

Scenario 2: Slot out the mounting bolt holes on Carb #1 or Carb #2 and use it on the stock single carb manifold (I ran a slotted out Carter W-1 when this engine was in my 37 Chevy)

Scenario 3: Use Carb#3 on the stock single carb manifold.

I assume Carbs #4 and #5 are too big for my application.

    Thanks

  2. not sure if they will work....but they look like Ford 6cyl carbs....good be trade bait ?

    Bump.

I think maybe I should just keep these 2 as possibilities to run by themselves on the 235 (The engines they were designed for have the closest displacement)

Carb #1: Carb Assy #11780, Carb Model 228BV11, Customer Name GMC, Customer Part #2332430, 248 c.i. “Economy” , SAE2 Bolt Pattern

As far a my dual 216 manifold goes, maybe I should just get a second Carter W1 to match the one I already have?

As stillrunners suggested: good trade bait.

Carbs one and two differ internally as you suggested in jet size but ALSO VENTURI SIZE.

Scenario 1: For best results, carbs on a dual setup should be EXACTLY the same.
Scenario 2: 11475 should work exceptionally well.

Zenith made excellent carbs; you shouldn't have any trouble moving them.

I used a pair of zeniths' on a 250 with a tillitson(?) intake and they worked great! They are very nice carbs, I have lots of cores/bit & pieces/ spares and can probably match up one of yours so you'd have a set. Shoot me a PM if you want to go that route.

Thanks for the reply, Jon. I'll hold on to the 11475 for sure and see if I can sell the rest to folks working on big old trucks!
