Picked up a nice Galaxie!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by vintageauto, Apr 29, 2012.

  1. Went to Spring Carlisle to sell a Chevy BB truck and to look for an early 60's Galaxie....Well, I did both. The truck is gone and I have this 63 1/2 Black/Red Galaxie. It's an Arizona car...very straight and no body problems that I could find. All original Red interior and under dash AC...I really don't like the under dash unit, so I may take it out....thoughts.

I was looking for a 390...this 63 has a 289, but I had to go with the straight Black and the "R" code look. The 289 really does run well..nice dual exhaust sound. It is an automatic with a Hurst "Indy" shifter...looks like a 4-speed....KOOL!

    Take a look.

VERY NICE car, I love 63 1/2 Galaxies, my third car I had back 1968 was a 405 Horse 406 4 speed white with red interior, of all the cars I've had I wish I had that one back.

  5. Damn nice looking car. Congrats! My dad would have gone crazy for that car. He had a thing for black cars with red interiors.

That looks like ford dealer-installed air. I had an almost identical unit in my '64 Fairlane. FWIW: They're very efficient.

Very jealous, especially since it's a 4 speed car!! I wish I had held out and picked up the 63 1/2 I'd rather have, instead of settling for the 61 boxtop I got. I'd be much more motivated to work on it!

Very nice, I think the 427 emblems would look just right on there.

cool ride - knew a twin Brothers that owned a '63 1/2 with 427/4 speed. but, no posi. once up and rolling was a pure powerhouse.

  13. Nice score, Murph. I like it a lot. My second car was a '64 Galaxie with the 289. Wimbledon White and had the fairly rare T-Bird option slide-away steering column. Love the dogdish caps on yours. I think I may have a pic of my '64 in my albums on here........................Don.

BEAUTIFUL car! Always loved the 63/64, especially the gauge cluster. It just looks like a classic cluster ought to look. The Galaxie dash went straight to Hell in 65. The Let me know if you decide against keeping that AC unit. I've been looking for one myself. I'd be interested in it.

And if you still want to go 390, well, I've got a few laying around and we're not that far apart.

Nothing wrong with an underdash unit. My wife had a '63 Ford Fairlane wagon with an underdash unit.

Good looking car! If the a/c works, leave it in...I know from personal experience that a black car on a hot summer day without air conditioning isn't much fun. ;)

  22. Hey All....Thanks for the positive comments. Man, looks like the AC may stay put....LOL. I wish you could see this thing in person.

I had already seen the car on Wednesday...a buddy came up Thursday around noon, not knowing about this 63, saw the car and sent a phone pic of this very car...saying "I found your Galaxie"...2 hours later it was in my spaces.

I coulda sold it 10 times...but its in the garage.....Thanks again.

  27. I believe that under dash AC unit was the Factory AC in 63. I worked at a Ford Dealer in the 70's and I don't remember seeing them any other way. I had a 63 Convert & a 63 Hardtop and both were the same way. Those units work great. Nice Car!
