Alrighty boys and girls lets see those drilled axles and not your superbell or so-cal drilled pieces please some home ingenuity drilled or slotted axles! Just trying to get ideas for this new axle for this project of mine. Thanks-Paul
Jeeze, I seriously thought this was about redrilling rear axles to a different pattern. (I wanna change my trailer from Ford/Dodge to Chev).
this what i did to my axle, not exactly drilled, but alittle different. it follows other lightening holes i punched into the rest of the car
thanks Harry thats exactly what I wanted to see something a lil different I think i'm gonna alternate hiole sizes on the bridgeport today with it, pics when I'm done! I'll weigh it before and after too!
No pictures but I did my axle back in 1980 before it became popular again. Super Bells were the hot lick. I found and old dropped axle and had a buddy drill it for me. 1/2" 3/4" 1" 3/4" 1/2" 3/4" 1" 3/4" 1/2" 3/4" etc .etc.
Here is one that was under my 34 5 window, 19 3/4" holes + one each end for the shocks. 5 window was said to be a early drag car (New York area)in the 60s? Dave
Drilled at home on a Harbor Freight Drill Press. Made a jig, vertical tubing guide with a flat plate welded at a 90 degree angle, plate ground to axel inner width. Vise grip plate to axel, run the drill bit through the tube. Used one hole to mount panhard bar. Good Luck Duane
Here's ours for our HA/GR project...21 one inch holes in a 40s Lincoln I beam. On the wall when it was first done: From the front showing the spring mount and basic layout for the hairpins as under construction: As it looked when first a rolling chassis: And one last one...on the seat, we still have a way to go: Build thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189651
A swap meet find from today. Not going to be used for anything but a wall hanger. But it is drilled, dropped, and slotted.
Here's mine. Drilled 40 Axle, narrowed and dropped to Fit the 32. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
