  4. Hard to tell if it is a '47 or '48 Dan, but I'm reasonably sure it's not a '46 'cause they had the parking lights above the grille and were rectangular, at least most were that way, although over the years things get changed.:)

Thanks Don. I knew it was 47 or 48 for sure. The ??, which I have now removed since I can see where that led to confusion, was to denote that I don't know who the owner is.

  8. Ford really muddied the water on identifying the '47 Ford. First they sold left-over '46s as '47s but these are easy to spot with the square front turns and the '46-only stainless trim around the side windows. All the exterior stainless trim (except for the windshield and taillights) is unique to the '46. Next came the 'true' '47 that at a glance looks the same as a '48 but again had unique side trim. Some early versions also had the '46 bumper overriders (Ford apparently using up the leftovers) but the real difference is the profile of the side trim. The '47 trim has a tear-drop shape while the '48 is 'V' shaped with the peak being obvious if you know to look. Easiest way to spot this is to look at the hood belt-line trim; the 'real' '47 trim has a couple of 'hash' marks at the forward end of the trim, not found on the '48. But this design didn't make it for the full model year, Ford switched to the '48 style trim later in the year, eliminating any differences. 'Real' '47 trim is not easy to find... All the repo trim is for the '48 as it's the most common. The one pictured has '48 trim.
There was also different gauge face colors, but those could apparently change between the Deluxe and Super Deluxe as well between years, so I've never figured those out.

Thanks so much for that info @Crazy Steve. I have the same problem with 47-48 Buicks too and a bunch of other multi year models. And thanks again Don (@lothiandon1940 ) - I always appreciate any help. You're welcome and thanks @BrerHair.

Don (@lothiandon1940 ) and Steve (@Crazy Steve ) it turns out that it is a 1947. The owner of the car saw the picture on Facebook and let me know. Again, thanks for your help.

Just read the whole thread and enjoyed all the fine photos. Being a Pontiac freak I was especially happy to see the 58 long roof. Thanks for posting.
