This past summer, I had the opportunity to participate in the drive of the Pete & Jake's and Super Bell Coupe from the NHRA Museum to the Goodguy's Pleasanton show. The story on the trip was published in The Rodder's Journal #46, but below is a link to a less than three minute video that I shot and is now on youtube.

    I hope you enjoy it.

  12. Thanks for the vid. At Goodguys Columbus 2006 the cars were there -- and also the rodders. They talked with our group for at least an hour on their friendship over the years.

I've always said that the trip to and from an event is way more special than anything that can happen sitting in a lawn chair. After seeing this I rest my case.

Those may be too new (early 70s) to be original traditional, but they sure started a whole 'nother renaissance that reverberates to this day. Great to see them out heating up the fluids and wearing off the rubber!

    Fab32,

I absolutely agree. This was one of those trips that you talk about for the rest of your life. I to first saw these three at Tulsa in '76 (the year I graduated from High School).

Thanks, that's a very nice video. Somehow, in my head, I always think of those two cars as a being a decade older than they really are. Very cool.

  25. Jay,
    Thats too cool for words!
Thanks! What a blast that trip must have been!
The story was great too - I am good friends with the New Zealand couple you mention of.

    Desert1957,

I actually shot at least an hour, maybe two of film. This is just a lot of driving around and talking, but also a lot of bumpy highway shots. Is it worth doing a longer version? I could certainly do that, as I also have a 10 minute rough cut.
