Technical Perch length question.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ric, Aug 6, 2014.

  1. I am using a spring in front style wishbone on my roadster project. The perches I have are not long enough to run the lower shock mount on the end of the perch. Measuring just the shaft (end of threads to base of beveled shoulder) I get about 4 3/8". Talking with people the consensus is these are the longer ones. Is that correct ? Does any one know of any longer version ?

  2. Bringing this back up. Any one making longer spring perches out there ?

Longer perch pins are available. Just shop around. So Cal has em. Speedway has em. Etc. I'm assuming we're talking about Ford components, of course.

You won't find a perch pin long enough if you are using a later wishbone and using the aftermarket shock mount. In order to make a long aftermarket perch work you will need to cut the top part of the wishbone as marked in red on the attached picture and retaper the bevel. cut 35-48wishbone.jpg

  6. are you trying to use a "tube" shock or are you using original style hydraulic shocks? If your using stock style hydraulics you can get different length "dog bone" connectors that go between the pin and the shock end. I'm assuming your trying to use tube style shocks?

  7. Voodoo Twin: checked with so cal and their's are same length as mine. He said he did not know of any longer ones available.
31A: That is exactly what I am trying to do, I have decided your mod is probably my only option at this point.
    High Plains: Yes tube shocks.

Thanks for your replies guys, I will try Pete and Jakes per olscrounger but it looks like modifying the wishbone is the deal.

  8. I don't know why not,I used the Chassis Engineering spring perch bolts with the lower shock mount and didn't have to trim anything. HRP
