Yes Mart Made it there , drove from Birmingham to south Wales, drove the wheels off the 32 and was beaming with his results .. car looked great and run like a top . :) Pretty sure he will post his account so I wont interfere with that .

We drove 1200 miles in total for the event , trailering the rebuilt coupe ( Number 64). It was Gus's return after a rule change restricted a few cars that run into and beyond the 100mph mark . To top it Covid came along and then to add insult to injury, Gus's coupe was written off in a collision .

The car is now rebuilt and totally revamped and once again qualified for the event . I managed to button it up a couple of weeks ago .. see a few videos in that post ..

Gus first run netted him a spin at 100 mph. Unfortunately he had forgot to disconnect the kick down and when pushed that wee bit harder it dropped a gear just as he entered the timing area. The car broke loose and spun sending him a a massive side ways slide . He reported that the car felt like it was going to roll, but fortunately it didn't dig in and the car drove out of the slide with no more indignity other than a cone from the timing area firmly fixed to the front axle

    180cd83633b-0.15fb857c735d2.jpeg

Second run saw him in the 100s again with another 2 consistent runs in the 100mph speed range, even with a 10mph headwind .. would have been good if the wind was behind us :)

Upshot was a great weekend and another great event put on by the VHRA and Sidewinders car club . The even wouldn't be what it is if the criteria was eased, so, good for the VHRA to stick by there guns and not giving in to pressure . Takes some doing to keep things from becoming a commercial money making lifestyle event .. Good on you lads .. Keep up the good work maintaining the integrity of one of the worlds best hot rod events. Im proud to be part of it even though I haven't yet driven on the hallowed sand at such a historic location where land speed records were once fought over . but I hope to compete in the next couple of years before I'm 60 :)

What was good to see was a few young fellas getting in on the action . Ages from 18 to early 20s living it as it was in the day , teens in hot rods, not old farts in cool cars :) regardless, Im proud to be an old fart .

these are the last of the pics I took on my snappy camera no order , no preference, just as they came off the disc . :) hope you enjoyed the pics ,

As far as I understand it the numbers for the event are limited to 150 or thereabouts . This ensures that everyone that attends gets 2 runs in on each day . Im not sure what the numbers are for VHRA membership but it has to be close to 800 these days .

I met Doug in the chippy - stays not far from me ,I also passed him on the way home zooming up the road at a perfectly legal 70 mph up one of the steepest hills back to Scotland .
