I'd love to do something like that... and should I win the lottery I'll be there! I wonder what kind of fuel you have to tune / build your engine for? Lowest common denominator would be? Gary

  12. Mate of mine just did Amsterdam - Peking in a Citroen 2CV ( ugly duckling ) Once in China they had to carry a customs officer for the rest of the trip and even pay his hotel and food. Also lots of corrupt cops out that way.

Thanks for post. a few years ago a friend of mine was offered the opportunity to be a mechanic on one of the cars doing this rally. he turned it down. just getting to China was too much for him to think of, much less the long road trip.

Here's a link to some build pix & other info. http://peking2paris2013.com/car/ You can get regular updates on Twitter. Sad to report that a British woman was killed in a car crash driving a 70 Chevy pu during the rally. The 40 is still going, had lots of problems with the V8,but she soldiers on!!

Damn!! I was in Beijing when this thing kicked off a few weeks ago - I didn't know anything about it otherwise I woulda been all over it!!
    Damn my luck!
Ah well, good luck to all competitors - safe journey. (though I read in a recent news report that a British competitor has been killed in a traffic accident. I just hope that's a mistake)
    Cheers.

Hope you took a lot of toilet paper...My buddy did this trip in a `50 shoebox a few years ago and said a reliable car and toilet paper were the two most important items to have.:)

Give Shiner a bath, use the next year to make improvements and go at it again with flat head power next year. This is pretty impressive.

Congratulations to Michelle & Mike & their whole team.
