Projects "Pea Green" the '29 Tudor build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by '52 F-3, Sep 14, 2014.

  1. very crisp and neat, really like where this is going.

Share the perspective, as creativity, craftsmanship and inspiration can be found in all interests, where people have a passion for what they do. Just for clarity, no offence intended with regards to the term polarizing, just recognizing that you're following a path less traveled.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus

none taken, actually I like the way you write; "following a path less traveled".
Years ago I tried to come up with a original idea. I've found it to be very hard, but am still trying.

Keeping front wheels 3 1/2" wide, but widening rear from 4" to 5 1/2". A few cutting wheels later and I'm ready to weld...

while wheels are being Tig welded by a friend, I starting work on my 46 split bones, continuing with the flourishing styled holes (I know you all love them so much) also damn paint isn't drying on the my stock spindles..... (got acouple heat bulbs warming things up)

  5. The funny thing is that we catch the majority of what was done then.....and call it "traditional"......and miss all the varied personalities building those cars.....as well as the geographically impossible methods of catching up with it all. No internet, no world wide media selections available. Pretty much impossible to catch it all.....can only see and document so much.
Some used electrical tape to black out grills, some flipped taillights, while others may have been lucky to have the cash, to chop, lead, fill, and shave.....but not many. I like what you're doing. Takes balls to blast a bunch of holes in your shit.......even more so to post it up to criticism at times, too easy to chunk out at ya'.
One of the best welders I ever saw would pull all of his welds in a way, akin to mosaics. Everyone would comment on his style, make stabs of how they wouldn't do it as he did......but I'll be damned if they could ever look away from his stuff......they were gorgeous pushed and pulled beads.....in patterns precise and artistically solid. I've never seen anything quite like it....not then.....and surely not now. Guess you have to be a welder to understand the artistic possibilities meted out by oh so very few.....
Your drill flourishes remind me of him, and all the individualized builds lost to time. Everyone may or may not wish theirs to look as yours prettily falling into place.....but I'll be damned if they ever really look away. It's got personality in spades....instead of a bunch of damn swiss cheesed holes hanging in the wind. Looks good. Only thing I would do different is slosh that shit into some lustrous, sexy, mile deep, fukn' chrome man......pop that style into another dimension......but that's just me.
Keep it rolling brother. No belly buttons here.

after test fitting prior to painting I missed the wheel cylinders are contact the king pins (speedway repro Lincoln backing plate kit and stock Ford 46 spindles on a 40'ish axle). Also axle was made to fit Chevy spindles at one time so I had to bend back and make the thick spacer fill area that had material removed from....
2nd pic show material I removed from wheel cylinder, is this common? or am I missing something?

planned to use this 51 ford F-1 rear Dana 44, just narrow a few inches to nice width. I really like the factory parking brake cables, mounts etc...... wanted to do something a little different with it, ending up deciding to go with a different center section
    20141013_144935.jpg
2nd picture is a 95'ish Jeep Cherokee rear I got a salvage yard. I only plan to use the center section (maybe the tubes)

a few minutes with the torch.....
    20141013_135117.jpg
the reason? center is cast aluminum

I think I got a pretty good deal on Craiglist today, still need to check condition etc.... a stuck 255 Merc, a "running" '49 8BA, some old Offenhauser heads and a new intake, new water pumps and some other flathead parts

Thanks for the update and photos, I like the color combination on the front end. That cream would look good on a firewall. Bob

dropped the aluminum heads off with machinist to see if they can be cleaned up, Looks like the are early model Offenhauser (horizontal water outlets)

spend alittle time painting. outlined green on axle with dark brown and got wishbones ready to paint holes green, plan to outline in brown also.......

not much time to work or progress... but UPS man came with some spring perches, lower shock mounts and steering stops from "Speedway", not much to modify or change here.... but do plan to replace lock nuts to castle nuts and drill for cotter pins.
close up of finished sleeved holes in wishbones, that outline is the dark brown I'll be painting the frame.

I did some hand painting on 2 wheels tonight. I didn't use the term "pinstriping", it would be an insult to the professionals. but I'm happy with results......

  22. Man that looks sharp, love the way you've broken the standard run of the mill look and really given your car your own personal touch. Looking foward to the final result..

I love it so far! Keep up that level of detail throughout the build and it should turn out amazing. Plus I am partial to green and holes!

Metal art at it's best! If you apply this much attention to detail to every aspect of this build it would take a day and a guide to walk around and take it all in.....

    test fitting my 8.20 x 16's on the (widened to 5 1/2") 1936 wide 5's
suspension/drivetrain etc..... is all still stock, I'm going for the "hi-boy" look but this is too high.

    but it's a reference/starting point.
    20141123_132425.jpg
also these "KD-910 headlights" are what I'm going to start with, plans to make an aluminum rear mount and close off bottom. (above pic shows the aluminum mount i'm forming like a bowl)

I had this "great idea" instead of mounting my fuel pressure and vacuum gauges in the firewall like I've done before, "mount them in back of the headlights"..... well, after this first test fit I'm not so sure if I like it. gonna have to sleep on it. any thought?
