not the best beginning of the week....... one step forward and two back

the only thing crazier than my parking brake cables mounting bracket is how I mounted it. I'm pretty sure it'll work fine, backup plan is to mount bracket to bottom of the body. also the paint dried terrible, due to me hurrying to get done.

but then I was trying to set my pinion angle and found I had an issues. Basically I couldn't lengthen the upper rods and shorten lower because it would bend leaf spring un-naturally. So to rotate pinion up a couple degrees I lengthened upper rods a little bit and lower rods a little more. Well I ran out of adjustment on lower rods, so I cut 1/4 inch off the rod and put tie-rod back in...........

So it started good but soon got snug, I then used a wrench to turn in (I know, big mistake) when it got too tight I decided to back out, well it got tighter...... after loosening/tightening a couple times I knew I was screwed. I then heated rod with a torch to expand tube and back out tie-rod, yeah.... that didn't work. I heated up more and tried more, then slightly bent end of rod, so I said fuck it and torched it off. Finially I called it a night.

    Hi Gregg

    Parking Break Blues:

I'm in the same boat as you...
I'm working on a "Grooved Ball Bearing - Extended Cables Something Something" on my Tub...
    Not really there yet...
I Also Wish I thought it out B4 I painted it all...
    ...I guess that's called learning?

    Thought?
Your nice Rubber Bracket Exhaust might move around when you pull the brake handle?..
Maybe it doesn't matter that much?

    Build Documentation:
$#!- Happens when you build stuff (It's not all just Perfect Welds...)
Thanks for keeping it real and showing the real "Progress"!

    Keep Pounding Man!

Very nice detail!! I really enjoy your project. Thanks for taking the time to show us.

    Ryan.

  13. Very nice. Are you now thinking about doing that to the rest of the bolts/nuts?;):)

  14. All that work and you use a common old black washer? ;)

I might make a couple more "Acorn" nuts to use in interior or air-cleaners, but done for now.
Am trying to use as many "Castel" nuts with cotter pins as possible.

Good eye Dean; I didn't have a stainless lockwasher that size. I just wire wheel'ed a regular one and clear painted it like I do for most nuts and washer.

    thanks for replys/compliments.
few detail pics of cotter pins.

swapped around a few parts on a couple 2G Rochester carbs. Looking for some fitting/fuel lines and hoses now. Also considering making an air cleaner assembly, but might just go with 2 fishmouth scoops.

finally sucked it up and bought a nice radiator, also routing on fuel, trans cooler lines and spark plug wires using 55/56 Chevy separators/looms. Also need to get the body back on for firewall clearance checking before going much farther.

the fan I planned to use didn't leave enough clearance with new radiator but an 18" semi-flex low profile fan did.......(but there is no way anything blue anodized in going on this car.......)
So some Oven Cleaner, brass brush, Scotch Bright pad, buffing wheel/polish, tape and Green paint made it a lot better and now have 7/8"ish fan/radiator clearance.... (will only consider a shroud if I have cooling issues)

Also after hours of think and making air cleaner templates i didn't like, I found these for a great price on ebay........

with my starter mounting ring adaptor, neither a Powerglide or TH350 torque convertor dust cover fit, so I had to ruin both of them to make one. Not pretty but will work....

What? No paisley holes in the trans pan? Better paint 'em on, ha,ha. Great job man, I'm loving it.

Seems like GM used to have some little tin clips that snapped over trans cooler lines to hold them 1/4 inch or so apart and keep them from rubbing on each other. Might be a nice little touch to keep them exactly parallel.

I was looking for some tubing clamps and remembered what was used years ago when working on helicopters. Phenolic material: it holds up to oil/fuel, non conductive and don't transfer heat. it's the same thing used to make carb spacers and I have some.

this might be the start to what could become a time consuming idea. I could use in other areas for tubing and wiring securing.
