That would be called surface rust. And as Neil Young told us, rust never sleeps.

Rust, patina is an over used and much abused term.

  8. Great project, those are neat looking trucks and pretty unusual too. It'll look real cool if you don't give it the whole "mini truck rockers on the pavement" treatment.

I like its current ride height. But down 2 or 3 inches from there would be good too.

The other are right the rust is only gonna get worse.

Ive got a shiney car already. this is just what i wanted. not a rust hole in it.
    I have a few engine choices, a 1970 eldorado 400hp 550lbs torque engine a 57 325 Hemi or a 5.7 vortec 700r4 combo.

  13. Not yet, but there will be.

  14. I luv the wide whites on cop wheels! I vote sea foam green and cream 2 tone, but if you like it the way it is spend your money on a motor and drive the wheels off it.

What's wrong with the original frame that it needs replacing?

From the evidence of the photochop... it's gonna get a full air ride system... maybe he's gonna build a completely new frame and the air ride at the same time?

Looking at the above photo shop made me ask myself is this "preaching the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs"? I have to say that in my humble opinion the answer is a resounding NO. Let's face it, this interpretation of this truck is not something that would have been seen during the period that this board focuses on. Whilst I would agree that the original poster has every right to do whatever he pleases to what ever vehicle he wants, this kind of project distorts history and sends out confusing messages to folks who wish to learn how it really was back in the day. As such, I believe it falls squarely under the category of off topic and has no place here. As for the chorus of "if you don't like it then you don't have to read it, just move along" that is bound to follow this post, that kind of attitude allows the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs to become distorted and the original focus of this board then becomes bastardised by an influx of modern interpretations basically rewriting history with erroneous information. The original poster's plans for this truck are a product of the 21st-century, not the 50s or early 60s which are the latter part of the era we are paying homage to and trying to recreate around here. This is not meant to slap in the face to the original poster, just my humble contribution to narrowing the focus of this place back to what it was originally intended for. I am sure I will get branded as a traditional Nazi for this, but I'm not and my own vehicle can only be described as "traditionally inspired" for a number of reasons. However even in the relatively short time that I have been here I have come to feel that the original message has been diluted in such a way that I, and I believe many other long-standing members, end up feeling like King Canute trying to turn back the tide.
However, once you remove that nasty little word "traditional" from this place it just becomes another hot Rod board where people can post whatever the hell they like.
Sorry for the length of this post, but I'm trying to take a little time out explaining my position rather than just "flaming".
Thank you for your attention to the ramblings of a feeble mind.
    Paul

And there's another stupid trend, taking the hood off of stuff for no reason. Anything after 35 should have a hood...

  27. you could always acid wash the truck and clear it if you want the worn look but with some protection. theres a thread on here somewhere with a '61 Impala wagon that was pretty cool..but got criticism just the same....;)

do what you want, have fun,,,;)

I like the look of your truck. Great patina. I'd leave it like it is.
