flat-top will be there thursday and friday. looking at the stuff bass does not buy up before i get there.
Headed from BR thursday with my pops. Haven't been since it moved to the speedway. All i remember was fields+rain=good times.
Short term goals, LaGrave field swap is THIS weekend. I might get out to Pate on Friday afternoon, I'll be in Chicago the rest of the weekend for a Birthday Party.
I was thinking about cooking some HAMBburgers and having a beer after. I am so close I can see TMS from the front porch. ;p Anyone interested? Friday?
Oh yeah, I'll be there, probably with some local guys. Frank, we should meet up. ThunderRocket, tell us all a time and place so we can partake in tasty burgers and beverages. And we'll be at LeGrave this weekend as well. I'm trying to convince them to hit up the Smoke Pit at Belknap and I-35 afterwards for some damned fine BBQ, suds, and ta-tas.
Trying to get the day...or the morning off. And if anyone see's a '37 FORD truck grill shell, let me know!!! *edit* oops, fixed....
I'll be there bright and early Friday morning. Don't nobody buy none of the stuff I'm looking for before I get there damn your hide. I gotta leave on Saturday to get back to Houston to catch a plane to Canada on Sunday so leave my stuff alone,,,ya heah?
You really can't call it the Pate swap meet since it moved to the speedway. I loved growing up at the pate swap meet out in Cresent. I loved the barn fresh cars that seemed to allways show up each year for this swap meet. The smell of BBQ cooking down in the wooded areas. The Mud and rain, man those are some good memories. I remember the mud so bad that the only vehicle that could get around was a little bone stock Model T. It did great in the mud! You fellow Texans enjoy and drink a beer for me.
spaces 915-958 block 80 ave13. that's the second row when you walk in from the field parking on the right. We cook breakfast for whoever has the guts to eat it every morning. come on by.Lots of junk for sale. TP
Wished we were going this year I haven't got to go since I've been in high school due to final exams, and missing a week of school. I'll have to admit it hasn't been the same since they moved it to TMS. I miss the ole' cow pasture. I'll never forget the year it came the flood though that was my second year to get to go with dad and his buddies, I was only in the 5th grade
Actually, a couple of years ago was reminiscent of the old Pate days. Rainy, cold, even muddy. The asphalt was damaged and there were some big mud holes. I do miss the barn cars. Are there any swap meets in Texas that come close to compare to the old Pate? I think the coolest thing I ever saw there was a gas powered pogo stick. No joke.
No. But I always find something to buy at the current "Pate" swap meet. It's still the best in Texas, and anyone that tells you otherwise is kidding themselves. Once a swap meet starts to get a bad rap, it's like cancer...It slowly kills it. Of course it was better next to the Pate Museum....but guess what? Those days are over and will never be back. There are houses now where the old swap meet used to be. As far as other ones that are good in Texas, Rosanky down east of Austin has been getting better and better, and the one in Fredericksburg in the latter part of summer is always a good one as well. I thought Decatur was pretty good this year too. If they could just get some people in from out of state, it could be a lot more like the old Pate. Thye even have the terrential floods and corresponding mud! The former "Dallas" Swap that was at the Ballpark in Arlington is starting to gain steam again at the LaGrave Field in Fort Worth. I look for that one to start getting good. It was getting so big at the Ballpark that it rivaled Pate, but after it lost that location and he tried to move it to Ennis, it kind of belly-flopped. Since moving to LaGrave it's been better. The guys that put on Carls Corner have tried really hard to get that one to take off, but it's failed to deliver so far. Probably has to do with location. You might as well face it...with the exception of Hershey and Carlisle...there will probably never be another swap meet like the old Pate. You can thank ebay, greed, and society's dependence on convenience for that. And it sucks when people talk bad about swap meets, no matter how small. Because the people that put them on (so that you'll have a swap meet to go to in the first place) work really hard to make them happen, more often than not. I love swap meets and I hate to see them die. The only way to keep them going is to spread the word, bring out that old junk you think nobody wants, and bring some money to spend!
I broke one hell of a coventant last year "Never leave a man down"! Pate was so big, and my dad not being the spring chicken he used to be literally called it a day about 3/4 of the way through and found himself a trailer to sit on. I not willing to accept that there was at least 25% of the place left to cover. And knowing I'd never be able to sleep for the next week with it tearing me up inside that "THAT PART" was on one of those remaining rows. I was so torn, do I finish or stay with dad and haul him outta there? He started giving me the "Go on with out me, I'm done", and I truely did feel bad for him, but I hauled ass like a Hippie in a Biker bar. This year the old man is prepped. He's got himself some new kicks, and has been walking up and down a 10 story parking garage training for this year. He says he's in a lot better shape and not going to accept defeat this year.
