Haven't seen this thread for a while. This just goes to show how bad the inflation was back then. I had to give $75 for Clarence (see avatar) in February of '73. Up $50 in a year or less.

b-t-w; the pic of Clarence in post #4 on this thread was taken at the salt flats in '03 and the avatar pic was taken at the H.A.M.B. Drags a week later.

It has been two years so I thought this thread was due for a bump, Here is my 1958 NAPCO Suburban. Has been in the family for the last 15 years in storage. Once my Chrysler is back on the road I'm going to give it some new life!
The First pic is when we first got it and the second one as it sits now.

That is very nice Jim. We have been on the lookout for one of those.

  8. Parts are coming together for the '56 panel!
Picked up a set of seats ('60-'66- hope I can make them work), a nice clean 348, and the sheet metal to fill the gaping hole behind the passenger door (and someone who can handle the repair). Repair work will begin in about 6 weeks, but will have more info when I get back from visiting my parents (in Yankeeland) :D

  9. Jim (or anyone who would know),

Do you know how the '60-'66 suburban seats differ from the '55-'59 seats? I asked on the 67-72 site, and was told that the later seats are larger, but not how (seat pads/frames or bases) and if the later seats need to be modified to work? I have a '56 drivers seat, so I only need to use the later jump seat and rear seat (and I'm putting that seat in a panel truck, so I'll have to add the mounts anyway), and hopefully they will work for what I need.

I just got home....and while I was on my trip, I sat the jump seat of a 64 Suburban a couple times :) but didn't take pics or measure.

    I have one, I'm not using...out of a 56 parts truck

    Hello,

This old GMC Suburban has seen its days. But, it does get around along the coastal shoreline of the big OC. As worn out as it looks, it does get around the whole area. So, kudos to the daily driver. As we all know, if one does not have a garage, the daily dose of salt air is a given and protection, like a garage is a necessity. Otherwise, as we know from the title of Neil Young’s LP album, “Rust Never Sleeps…”

It is a good starting vehicle and who knows, we might see the old Suburban in a different stage of the game the next time my wife and I are out checking out the surf and beach environment.

Living in an old area of any town or old city has its drawbacks. Not all homes had garages, let along parking space designated in the original time period build. Most garages were made for smaller cars and this old Suburban is larger than most normal size garages can handle.

Especially if the garage door is the old lift up wooden door version that limits the height of any entering vehicle. A possible lowered Suburban could clear the height, but now, the width could be a problem, too. YRMV
