nice job on the caps--agree with double stripe on the wheels. I have painted about a dozen sets of caps with Oneshot and a small brush--the paint is still on after quite a few years

  4. I'm not sure if the ribs on the caps are raised or indented. I'd paint the innermost and outermost rib on the hubcaps with a red pinstripe. Just a different look, and I think it would add a little more red without being overkill.

  5. You guys do it the hard way,I clean the hub cap and brush the lettering ,slightly over laping the hub cap,I give the paint about 15 minutes to start drying and take a cloth soaked with lacquer thinner and wipe the smooth surface of the hub cap leaving the indented section the color I want.

I have found that this works great and holds up well.

I agree with the red pinstripe on the rim, possibly a double stripe.

BTW, that's a great looking car. HRP

Stick your car up in the photoshop thread and see if they will put you some stripes on the wheels.
You may or may not like it and that would be easier than actually putting the stripes on then not like it
    ..........sometimes less is more.

  11. I hear you entirely low budget, don't want to do too much, that's why I'm thinking a simple red pinstripe on the sides of the car may be enough...but thatnks for the suggestion.

Cactusi and Philly, both of those look great, thanks for posting those.

Here's a couple more pictures of the roadster:

Two red stripes, similar to ones in Cactus' photo, on the wheel will add the top of the cherry - My 2¢.

Do you do any prepping other than cleaning them for the paint to stick ?

  16. I don't personally, just clean the area with rubbing alcohol to remove any waxes or grease then prime and paint, never had an issue.

Thanks Bludice,it's the Don Kendall roadster and I'm just the caretaker for now...absolutely Love the car!

  21. That's my thinking too...but I'd be open to seeing it done both ways.
I will post them up and see if someone could photoshop them for me...

Get some red pinstriping tape and put it around the trim rings to see what you like.
Then remove it and paint them.

  23. True...might just be cheaper and easier to have someone photoshop it for me.

the silver of the trim ring would be the other color unless you want to do several colors in the grooves which might look cool too like red, white and blue ??? as for putting a stripe on the outside to break the color up look at a UPS semi trailer wheel ( the brown ones , not the white rims or aluminums ) as they use a pinstripe to break up the vast amount of brown on the rim, some of the stripes are on the mounting edge some are just inside the flat of the lip . its sedate but there .
