I have searched and have not found the answer I need.
    1955 Thunderbird 3 speed overdrive.
I have benched tested the solenoid , tests good.
    Governor is jumped.
    Kickdown switch is good.
overdrive relay makes, sends 6.5 volts to solenoid .
Solenoid will not make, in or out of transmission.
Is it possible that even if the relay sends voltage to the solenoid that ,the relay cant take the current to make the solenoid?

It is possible that the relay contacts open up under a high amperage load. Measure the resistance across the solenoid. It should be just an ohm or two, the solenoid should not draw very much power.

The solenoid has a "pull-in" and a "hold-in" coil, maybe the former has failed?

I bench tested the solenoid by putting a fully charged 6 volt battery to the blue wire and grounding the case . Strong action by the solenoid.

15887890404867296138349769680034.jpg I removed the relay. Cleaned the points, and all connections . Installed relay. Works now.
    I also installed a Pertronix .
Pertronix says not to connect any other wires to the coil
The kickdown switch wire needs to short the coil. Pertronix told me to install a 7 owm 5 watt resistor in series to protect the pertronix
    Thanks for the help.
