How about pics of cars that are a little over the top. To much channel, chop, motor, you know just a little to much, but in a good way.

Wow, that 34 is awesome. I was thinking just a little over the top, that thing is plain wild. I like it.

As the cordwood stack swells! This should inspire some builds.

Spot on. A lot of good work and dollars wasted. Proportions look off.

  18. Can't have an over the top thread without The Michigan Madman E.J. Potter

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

EJ Potter with his Allison powered 1957 Plymouth

EJ also had a fascination with Allison V12 engines, which he proceeded to install in various vehicles. There was a 1957 Plymouth 4 door sedan where the engine was so long EJ had to sit in the back seat. On his first outing, a night run, he found the engine instantly spun the tires and filled the car with smoke, making it impossible to see, so he drove by staying to the right of the headlights of the cars in the return lane, but at the end of the run, the engine backfired, the fireball was so bright in the darkness, he now could see even less, though the hood was now humped up from the explosion so he couldn't see anything anyway. He managed to get it stopped and returned the next night.
He refined that idea after the Allison backfired through its supercharger and the car essentially became an oven. Potter suffered burns on his hands and arms while trying to get the car to a halt. His solution to the fire problem was to buy a brand new Dodge Dart station wagon, put another Allison (hooked to a tug boat clutch and a 1-ton truck rearend) in that and enclose the entire engine in a steel coffin to prevent the fire from escaping and burning him again. “The Dart was very tough to control and it didn’t take too long for me to scrap that project,” Potter said. “I did have a whole season running the Plymouth, the Southern tracks really liked that car, although guys like Ronnie Sox hated it. To see a big old Plymouth running as fast as I did didn’t do much for those guys.”
