About a week ago I was laughing at the California guys who were whining about getting an inch of snow (which no doubt is gone by now). We didn't have any here in tropical Minnesota. Well....here's my back yard this morning. The problem is the snowblower is in the garage and there's a 5 ft. drift between me and it. Paybacks are hell !!!
I broke both 11 hp blowers this morning....both drives gone after the pummelling we got last night. Snow was first and then a nice frezing rain to cover all nicely.
Yeah - we're currently getting pounded with a nor'easta. And just yesterday, I was seeing brown grass pop through the melting snow and hearing birds in the trees... damnit. Guess we shouldn't complain - we could have been in upper New York state with their 120 some-odd inches. Yuck. If it wasn't for all the Californians, I might consider moving there.
My driveway was drifted to almost 5' in the last storm on Valentine's day. No snowblower, I use spring as a snow removal method I did hand dig a trail out to work on the car though, brrrrrr.... Flatman
I'm still not going to complain that my Bartenders Lime tree lost a bunch of leaves in the frost we had last month, I'm not!....I'm not!
It was 71* wednesday, 31* and hailing, w/ a few tornados yesterday, and freezing again today. It will be above 60 by sunday. Welcome to the bi-polar midwest.
Guys GUYS! Move to Australia where we don't get snow, its the heat that stops us from getting from the house to the shed, or was that the 16 beers I had to psyche myself up first?
Jeff I was at Jeem's yesterday when you called and he said you were going to Detroit, looks like you will miss the bad weather!!but then again!
aint that the truth, run the defrost in the morning, air conditioning in the afternoon.... the winds night before last ripped a pretty good section of the roof off of our shop. of course it was the corner of the shop with all the tools, welder, engines ect. now they are all nice and wet
It was so cold here yesterday I wore long pants and a thin wind breaker instead of shorts with a Tshirt when I went for my bicycle ride at The Beach... ETA: But today it's 70º in the shade and going up another 10º by Sunday..!
Luckily between storms its gotten warm enough for shit to melt and then re-freeze so my driveway is pretty much an ice rink and I have a pretty nice lake starting to form in my ditch... once it covers across the street maybe the drain commission will fix it for me.
Johnny, you ain't alone. Iowa has been pounded all week. 100's of businesses have shut down today...mine included!!! That's why I'm on the HAMB right now. Here's a pic of my back yard. What you can't see in this pic is the tree that blew over and caused this snow drift. But don't worry, come Hell or high snows, I'll still make my way into that garage and do some car building this afternoon.
I can't measure how much snow we got here in eastern South Dakota because the drift is too big to get the door open to measure. Glad I have beer and cable tv....
Me too... I've been to town twice today to get a new belt for the auger drive on mine. I have well over 2 feet and it's still comin' hard. If this belt fries again, I'm going to the farm implement dealer and replacing the deadman drive belt and pullys with sprocket and chain... I'll just have to make sure the dog is in the house when I use it. JOHNNYFAST- I'm in the same boat with ya. I was laughing at all the snow in the South and in New York and now I'm gettin' the payback... It's still fun as hell to drive in.... The old Dodge Ram 4x4 doesn't even know it snowed.... JOE
Its snowing SO Hard right now......I just might have to throw another log on the wood stove..... gonna head out soon to check the damage on the blowers.... ..they should be thawed about now.
Crikey Doc! I've been dressing that way for the entire month of February. Digger's snow isn't that deep that you can't ride through it. Mike
well at least it should be" In like a lion out like a lamb" just spent last two hours snow blowing the exs driveway & more snows coming down......
I slept outside last night...........................in my cardboard box with newspapers for blankets
I feel your pain brother. Today there was a cloud that interrupted our blue skies, 70* weather. I almost put on a jacket, but by the time I had picked it up off the seat it was sunny and clear skies again.
