I'm struggling with the clutch linkage, the 34 pedal intersects the Buick throw arm as it comes back. I know I need to make a bell crank to convert the pedal push to throw arm pull, but it is just to tight. I hate to break up an NOS 39 pedal assy that has taken me 10 years to collect, piece by piece, but what's a fellow to do. A hydraulic throwout bearing would have to be custom made to fit the Cadillac transmission, that's out, so I'm cannibalizing the 39 and a 36 assy to work. Do what you've gotta do... I don't think those are all that rare! I know my shopmate had at least one assembly (possibly 2 or 3) for sale at the Roundup for a decent price and no one inquired about them! I have one that I'm not sure I'm going to use... BUT... do carry on! I've been watching and enjoying what you're doing... 3blap.
Ron, just do what needs to be done to make it work! True old fashioned hot- rodding at its best. Besides Terry probably has 10 of those pedal assembly's in stock. By the way are those your feet in the socks and slippers in the last pic? Hope you are not welding in those baby's.
Them's my shop shoes John. Not allowed in the house with them, so easy on and off and no, I don't weld in them, learned my lesson a long time ago.
I dropped a 34 column drop, no pun, on my foot last night cleaning the work bench! It is rusty with sharp broken off bits, I had socks on though and avoided cuts, just light bruising. I think I have the clutch/ brake linkage problem sorted out. I found a 47 ton & 1/2 brake/ clutch pedal bracket assembly at my local old Ford parts supplier (Terry-250-743-2814) and mocked it up with a 36 brake pedal as a clutch pedal and the 47 ton&1/2 brake pedal. I threw the 47 clutch pedal into my metal bin. It is flat stock and not attractive at all. The 47 brake pedal is 1.250” longer in the ratio than the 36 passenger brake pedal, but after some heating and bending, will be close to the same length from pivot point to floor opening. The bell crank is a 36 brake relay bracket piece, or brake equalizer piece and will transfer the clutch pedal motion. More on this, after I get the mounting bracket made from 3/16” plate instead of wood and get the ratio and linkage dialled in. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ron. Do you still have to cut out the "pattern" shape around the distributor and back of the engine or is pushing to firewall back enough?
Its almost enough Matt. I recessed it as much as I felt looked OK and didn't cut into the foot room that much, and I cut the indented portion of a 36 firewall out. I will narrow that somewhat and splice it in place of the original 34 indent. That will give me an additional inch for distributor clearance and look somewhat stock. I didn't want the proverbial 1/2 pipe distributor recess. Nailheads are longgggg.
