I happened across this photo and article and found it interesting. I cut and pasted the photo and story to share. I have always had better luck in deep snow with narrow tires but this may have been the hot set up at the time.

I think #10 above is what they called a beach runner or sand buggy. They also did this to shortened Tri-Fives, Blasphemy!
I’d guess when the automobile became more and more in use, many places stepped up for “needed” accessories?
Hello, Here is a So Cal version that actually is licensed and driven on the streets as well as off road. Large tires, functional, but no so "Donky." Jnaki It takes all kinds and skills to create a different approach to driving an old car. YRMV
