They definitely do their due diligence before they give their stamp. They've rejected advertising about on certain cars because there wasn't enough proof for them that would be enough for most.

What does one restore it to? It's iconic for kids who watched the Boy Wonder and the Caped Crusader back in the late 60's. It's Iconic for people who visited Fords version of the concept car era. So thus, this is now a tough call. Most people remember both versions of this car and I know that a few versions exist of the 60's version. There is a loose copy of the Futura which kinda sits high in height and looks to have plastic bumpers. Can't say for sure, but I think that all of these are glass cars.

I guess that its all subject to interpretation............. :).

Im pretty sure they made a few cars for the show, so if anything this is the first one, as theyre all original being all built in the same period. No??

Whilst its a nice thought, theres so little there of the original car.
frame was swapped, glass was cut, upholstery & just about every panels been changed.
and more importantly the batmobile has become special in its own right to so many children over the decades.
think how many kids have been happy because theyve seen the original batmobile.
I wouldnt want to destroy that to save something thats only special to a few people. even as much as i love it myself. only thing i want it accurate blueprints taken from it and a true replica built.

I would LOVE to own the original Batmobile! Adam West (Anderson) is from the Dayton/Walla Walla area just about 70miles from my house. I've been to his family farm house, my buddy was looking at homes for sale in that area so we made a little pilgrimage there. I wondered if there was a cave near by... :D

From everything I've ever read it was built off of a Futura. Those show cars were considered junk after the show most of the time. I have no doubt, as you stated, they (B.J.) did their homework.

I saw a fuzzy one at a car show in the 70's. Adam West was also there in his batman suit.

It'll be interesting to see what it brings.

If I bought it, I'd drive it to work everyday, dressed as Batman of course. I'd do 90 on the freeway because no cop in his right mind would pull over the Batmobile! I'd use the Bat-chutes on every off ramp and find reasons to hit the drive-thru at fast food joints. I'd dig a cave under my house and install a pole to get to the cave in my bathroom. Yessir my life would be complete with that car in my hands...

I always wondered what the deal was with the fuzzy ones. I don't get it.

I think it was to cover up the poor bodywork, I saw one at a show in the 70s as well, I was not impressed with the car, poorly done clone. Someday I will have one just to light off the center flamed exhaust in traffic!

Yes it would be great to have the Futura back, but it's the Batmobile that would always get the recognition and fame. I doubt the Futura would be worth any more money and the restoration costs would far outweigh it's value in the end, plus all the Batman fans would hang you by the balls.

I currently have a reproduction Batmobile in my shop for some repairs and the attention it gets is amazing.

  19. HAAAA! Oh hell yeah!!

I always assumed the fuzzy ones were made to prevent lights from reflecting off the body on set.

  20. So, do you think Ron Pratt will bid on it? :)

Loved that show when I was a younger man;). Car was in Seattle at a car show with Adam West. I am not an autograph hound by any means but I still regret not waiting in that short line to get his.

It would take some serious skill and a serious budget to bring the Futura back to its former glory.

So maybe the new owner will just give it a new lick of black paint and call it good...

But personally, I hope its days as the Batmobile are numbered.

The Batmobile fans have their Barris built clones.
    Their needs are be met...

But we dont have the Futura.

Anybody that could afford to buy this car and to have it restored can afford good security... :D

I was just thinking the other day, how cool would it be for the car to be used by Tony Stark in the next Iron Man movie? :D

Maybe just show it parked in his car collection. I am sure that would bring a few smiles to movie fans. One super hero owning the car of another super hero...lol.

Another vote to bring the Futura back.

  26. There's a batmobile up here in my area that's based off one of the 90s batmobiles.

I've seen him pulled over by the cops... twice! :D

  27. Technically this is NOT the original Batmobile.....The first one was built by Dean Jefferies...but was not completed in time...based on a 59 Cadillac......

Back in the very early 70's, I went to a garage sale of sorts
that was being done by Barris, he was trying to sell all sorts
of parts and half done projects, it was a HUGE warehouse,
you could have bought 3 Batmobiles, in different conditions
for $1500 apiece.....no one bought them that day, who
could have known.....that was back when he was mostly
building Paisley Upholstered Pimp Cars.....he darn near
went out of business if it hadn't been for American Graffitti
    relighting the fire.....
