Did any of you read B.S. Levy's book series starting with The Last Open Road? His second book was titled The Fabulous Trashwagon. I didn't know it was a real car! This is it!

There is a spookily similar car in Minnesota that I’ve seen at Back to the Fifties the last few years. Made with old Ford chassis way back when. Even the same weird pink color. The present owner got it road worthy and dug up its history to the time of creation.

I find it interesting that the basis is a '32 Ford chassis. It then says that after you strip away the body, fenders and radiator that you shouldn't damage or junk any of it as some of the parts will be used later. Whatever gave them the idea that anyone might ever want or have any use for a discarded '32 Ford body?

At least the "new" body hid those hideous '32 Ford frame rails.

These are kinda neat for what they are, in an era where you'd build a car based off of a few pages in a magazine. But it's a little sad to think that a bunch of '32 Tudors were chopped up to make these.

 

I have seen that car also. At BTT50's and a few other local shows.

 

Well they had to use Tudors; all the coupes were cut up for the dirt tracks.

What a great series of books that every car guy or anyone who has ever worked in a gas station can identity with.

 

Over the years they showed photos of those home made sports cars on Ford Chassis with chassis running up into the early 50's. Some even got a Golden Hammer award. Figure that in the early 50's a 20 year old Ford wasn't all that expensive or rare. They got expensive and rare after the dirt track brigade destroyed them by the dozen every weekend in the summer.

Yeah, drop a new battery and it should fart right over.

 

Personally, I think the front end is “butt fugly”.
Would I change it if I owned it? Oh hell no! I’d clean it up and drive it just like it is…
