  4. Didn't the Glen Hooker car have the same Stude taillights. Absolutely beautiful example of a fifties custom, but what else would you expect from the Valley Custom shop?

  5. HOLY SHIT! That's amazing! I'd like to see what it looked like back in the 50's...

Absolutely gorgeous '40 Merc. Simple, clean, very tasteful. I don't think I've ever seen the exhaust run through the trunk before. Has anyone else?

I can't imagine the balls it took to chop a 2 week old car, especially back then. Stunning is one word to describe it.

The owner of this car just phoned me. Great guy and he has agreed to have it finished and place it in the prestigious Merc display - Sacramento Autorama !

1940, San Diego, I was coming up 34th st, to Adams ave, and a Black chopped Carson top merc came by with the dual exhausts, and DeSoto bumpers, and I can remember it to this day. Owned by someone I believed was named Krumholz.

different from this car as the Carson was smooth curve to the rear deck instead of notched.

Never had one, always wanted one, will never get one, I guess.

Apperently here has been a photo of this car in Life Magazine in the 40's.
According to the new owner the car had two horns protruding from the nose of the hood when Charlie (the original owner) had it. (awful!) It would be easy to identify with this information.

I do not have access to old Life magazines... but perhaps some of you do have a few in your collection. All help would be very much appreciated.

Cool! How neat it is to learn of an unfamiliar early car, not really a famous one but with solid history, and it's actually a really pretty example! I look forward to seeing it.

That merc is great makes me want to pull my 39 merc convert out and start working on it. On other thought maybe not better get my 32 coupe on the road first.

Man I always thought the Matranga '40 (and it's legions of lookalikes) were the best styled early custom... I think I may have a new favorite. It was REALLY that low then? Wow. It's beautiful in green. Your friend is doing great work to an incredible car...

Wow... now THAT's a custom!

Mind if I ask what shop is doing the work? Some of those projects in the background look familiar...
