If the blue coupe above was mine, I'd make the whole body blue, along with the grille shell, and I'd paint the grille insert white, plus maybe the firewall (although I'm not a big fan of the totally flat firewall either.) I like the "orange" color on the first page, although to me it looks more gold. I would like to see that car completely gold, with a white grille insert and firewall. Those straight, basic scallops were really popular on pastel painted S-10 minitrucks around here about 15-20 years ago, so that's all I can see when I see them. Or like someone wanted flames but they couldn't draw them with masking tape.
I have some old 60's rod and custom mags around here somewhere I should dig thru for some pictures of paint jobs....
At least this is orange, but the contrast to silver/gray isn't as much. And I'd also venture that the colors are Balanced in quantity of surface area of each color.
No love whatsoever for either of them. If its gotta have scallops, then it needs at least a hood top. And shiny paint...
Scallops work better with an angular based car IMO. That's why it's really hard to get 'em to look right on a deuce (or an A). On a 50's-60's car they just flow like they were meant to be. There are exceptions of course.
I'd paint it your solid color of choice and save the scallops for some day when you get an early 50s custom.
The base car is HOT ROD. The white & candy orange is more Kustom theme. The black & orange are conflicting. One color that fits the entire era that you are aiming for. Organic/earth tones of that '40's/'50's era that the car look's to be. Ultimately the final decision is what gives you peace of mind.
I have decided to add a hood top and paint it a solid color. It will sorta look like this but have not yet selected the color. Most likely will be orange but have not ruled out grabber blue.
IMO, I think you are being wise in taking your time in paint color & style choice. NOTE! Its YOUR car, YOUR $$$, YOUR CHOICE. At todays $$$, paint products and labor, you don't want to be disapointed a year down the road with your choice, more than likely you will not have your ride painted again, too much $$$ involved. Myself, being an "Old Timer" I can remember buying new cars for the price of a quality paint job today. Good luck with your decisions, "Choose Wisely" Can somebody on this forum , hook him up with a website? photoshop? or service, where he downloads a Pic of his car and you can paint it on the computor, print it out and think about it for a while? John
