    Gentlemen,

i just received 2 well rebuilt model 59 holley carbs from a pal's pal. After comparison, it looks like the rebuilder used modern power valves with a trick-looking sealing washer arrangement. the current valves are the 7.5 ones. I'd like to revalve these to 3.5 to run 2 X 2 on my flattie. quick specs:
.125 over, isky max1 cam, offy heads, regular dual manifold. It's running nice nice since the move to AZ, but still has carbs (taiwanesia knock offs) i'm not happy with. I'm not racing, just driving, would like better fuel economy, and more consistant idle (should've read the board before i got the knock offs). I'm guessing 3.5 is Ok with setup i'm running. Has anyone had any experience with newer holley PVs installed with sealing washers...or should i get originals , or pro-reworked ones like some of the posts mention.
    Thanks in adavance

I use the modern pvs in my rebuilds. I have to remove some material from the inside of the well to make room for the bigger spring retainer. For a gasket I use a viton quad-ring (square-shouldered o-rings) from McMaster Carr. Probably not the best solution for you as the o-rings only come in packages of 25. Ken CT from Fordbarn can set you up with "original" style pvs. I don't mean to step on toes from any Hamb venders.

  4. I am using the newer PV's in my 94's. Like 1952henry said, you gotta remove a little material in the housing to make them work, but it's no big deal.

As for sealing- I bought a bunch of 1/2" copper crush washers from SPENCER AIRCRAFT (253)848-9349 in Puyallup, WA. Part # MS35769-9. They work excellent. I bought (12) for $5.04 + shipping ($4.34) total: $9.38 to my door. If I remember correctly, there was no minimum purchase. I just bought extra for the future.

I'm jetted w/ .51 jets in both carbs.

My 94's are 8BA's. I am running an Edelbrock 2x2 Reg. I chose to go with 4.5 power valve in both carbs. They work fine for me. But my Flatty is relatively stock, internally. EAB heads (bumps the compression a bit) Mallory Uni-Lite distributor & dual exhaust.

I plugged the vacuum ports with 3/8"- 24 bolts cut down to about 1/4".

    Yup.
    Hope this helps.
