Finally got My 54 Century back together, and gave it a short test. Ran and drove fine. I had to add an aftermarket oil pressure and temperature gauge as the originals were not working. I also tossed the original 62 year old original Delco Remy dist cap and rotor, and ditched the Champion plugs for AC ones. All I gotta do now is get the idle speed figured out, shop maual says 450 RPM in drive, to me that seems a bit low though. Here is a photo I took before heading home. Not touching the paint, gonna leave it as is
That is a very cool car. I hope there are weekly car shows in your area that you can drive it to, park it, walk away and watch the gathering of people come over and just stare at your car for an endless amount of time.
Try a CLR buff job if you'd like to clean it up a bit, theres a few threads on the HAMB about it with some wicked results. Nice car BTW!!
That's what I was gettin at. Buff the blue. The light rust will likely worsen if not dealt with. The current paint cleaned and buffed verses more rust.
Yes this was my thoughts also for what they are worth, clean it up and buff what's left of the paint ,it would give it a cared for look plus a bit more protection.
That car would cause anyone to take a second look! Whether car buff or not....it doesn't have to prove anything to anyone, except ''here I am''.....I totally love the car!
Can you post more pics of the engine, interior, etc? Is that the original paint from the factory or did Earl Scheib get ahold of it in the '60s?
That is the 100% original paint on it. Here is a pic of the 322 nailhead, and interior.I love the Dynaflow, it's fun starting off in low, then popping it in drive, Oh boy! of engine, and interior
Your 54 looks like the spittin image of my first car I got when I was in the 8th grade! That was 1965, My Dad gave $50 bucks for it and I worked it off doing chores. Kept me busy for months cleaning it up, had it all painted up under the hood, flex pipe duals, loved that old car! You have a winner there!!
