Thinking of reducing the '30 sportie's cockpit size,
    its tulip is 5" long, '30 roadster is 10", ['28 is 11.375"].
cutting and sliding the upper quarters forward 5", then fill the new trunk quarter "gap", [gotta add 5" to the upper quarter at the tulip]…
I cut it at the arrow, as the smaller beltline bead is straight further forward...any further back and the smaller bead arches downward...
    DSCN3852.JPG
The bead along the bottom of the '30 - '31 coupe's lower panel is about 1" wide,
the trunk bead is about 3/16" wider and tapers...
both have a similar arch... '30 roadster has an extra ripple in the cockpit bead...
'30 sportie and '28 roadster do not...
'30 - '31 lower panels are about $100... much cheaper than quarters...
pic below... sportie tulip … DSCN3854.JPG
.... roadster tulip … extra ripple.
    DSCN3855.JPG
    ……………..
    .
Any chance one of you guys with computer skills could photo shop the tulip panel, in the pic below, move it ahead 5", the section with the 5, is 5" for reference... DSCN3859.JPG

  13. So, why are we thinking of doing this? I am not clear on why and what is gained. I am certain you have it all in your head but I can't seem to find it in mine:rolleyes:. Won't you be giving up five inches of valuable leg room?

Aww, 'can the comfort'...Gotta get that Long bustle Roadster look!

Study the Sport Coupe's 'abrupt' dropoff at rear, then recall the flowing rear of a roadster... (roadsters were drawn this way to resemble an expensive 'boat-tail' from side view) Edsel approved, and the Model A quickly climbed out of the 'style-less pit' so deeply dug by the Model T!
But, yep... It's gonna get short in there, I'll give ya that!
Too many 'A' roadsters for these legs' memory!

it makes the sportie cockpit much closer to the roadster's in size... the large sportie cockpit looks a little like a coupe with the roof cut off...
the bodies will be the same length, just longer doors and shorter quarters...
plus so many coupsters have the roof cut off and not many other customizing touches...
there is a thread here about making a roadster out of a sportie… can't be done but could make a fun rod along the way...
this is kind of a how to in case another rodder wanted to cut loose...

Sketch in a Top so you can see how much better it will look with a shorter blind quarter. Bob

It makes the w/s posts too wide for the windshield - 1"... trogger bought the cowl to make his own duval style...
    .
got a non ford w/s frame in a trade, 1" wider than an A... got a few '30 cowls, may try next summer.
    .
have a decent pair of '28-'29 stantions, gonna try them on a '30 closed car cowl for size...

Here's some inspiration Sloppy not that you really need any...;)...as you have it built into your creative mind...I did add a mod to the front of the door as well to blend into the dash...

    Your welcome...

Sloppy at the fwd end of the door what I tried to illustrate was the top of the door remains as it was, it is just extended over and flows around the curvature of the dash and gently flows back into the door...a couple of crude sketches to illustrate...keep in mind of course you are the one who decides...I'm just thinking out loud...;)

Thanks bud... emailed your photo shoppage to a buddy... loves it !
    Another buddy has been bugging me to bend up [4] *90s - 3/4" x 3/4" x 4" long of 18 ga. …
bring them over so we can shrink - stretch them, so they resemble the '28's configuration but curl up just before the cowl post... because of the jaw width i'll have to weld 2 together to make the door CAP...
haven't decided on weather I will add them or not...
    .
HOLD the PRESSES... corn fed bailed me out with some quarter scraps...
    thanks!

Thanks...the idea was being tossed around already and I just threw in my take.

It's common to do some kind of mods on these Coupe conversions around the dash area including numerous others involved in the creation process.

Again this truly is walking in a world of vintage design thats for sure...cut, chop, bend, add, subtract...that's where the name The Tadd 5 came from take a 5" tad and add a 5"tadd here and there and voila...Jalopy Hotrod...:D

If you look at the quarter where I cut and spliced it appears to look like Tadd 5

There are alot of Hambers here like Sloppy who take discarded or lesser desired models and create sharp looking functional Hotrods/Customs...its quite the sight to witness.

I was originally thinking of curling the leading edge of the door up AND in, like '30 to '36 roadsters...
didn't see how without cutting up a pair of roadster doors and a dashrail...

how about finishing the cockpit with a nice piece of hardwood. you might not get it right first time but would look great imho.
