    Olds Guys - Need help

what years did Olds come out with wire wheel covers

how were they fastened to the rims?

they do not snap on like normal covers you try that they fall off

photo snapped at a car show - you can see the steel rim & weight

Thanks for any help or if you know an alternative way that would help

    1953, maybe available 1954
The center cap snaps off, 3 of the lug nuts hold it to the wheel.
Pontiac, Buick, & Cad used same basket with their own center cap.

    Thanks for the info
I dug in the box the wire covers were in
found the round steel mounting piece has large holes the a lug nut would pass through
so they must of used large flanged lug nuts
here's photos of the Olds cover there are 3 pieces

large flanged lug nuts is my guess

I had these 53 Buick V8 wire wheel covers with a much different mounting system heavy steel mounting dish mount
the spokes were sandwiched from the top and bottom together

Olds system is different it has 3 pieces

    the Buick had 4 pieces
V cap snaps into the spoke retainer that screws in to the blue mounting dish and the cover

this is one reason i though some parts were missing

  4. GM revisited this in the mid-80s for wire wheel caps (the ones that have one bolt holding them to a center cap underneath), so you should be able to find lugnuts that will work pretty easy - 5x5 pattern cars have 1/2"s that should also work on the Olds unless one side is left hand.

I have a full set of generic ones, I'll have to check out how they mount now. I grabbed them at the flea market because they look just like the 53-54 factory caps, but the center cover is plain and they have an insert under the wires, I guess to hide if the rims didn't match or something.
