Saw this on another thread, didn't Starbird first build this one? Rickster?[IMG]

If its the same car , they did some articles on installing the riviera lights and making a tube bumper for the front, but its not like the one on there now. I think its in a 68-69 Rod&Custom magazine, had some reversed cragar mags. I might be wrong.:D

If that is the same car it has been radically reworked. I worked for Darryl during the original build. It was in a couple of 'How to's' in Rod and Custom in '67 and '68 I believe. I restored the car in 1970 and painted it Pearl Gold over Hugger Orange with some candy red gold paneling. The car belonged to Ron Ortner at the time. Ron sold it and I never saw it again. What site did you see the car on?

I found that picture on the wingedmessenger site. I remember and have the rod and custom issues on the lights and grille, I was thinking it was an updated version of Buddy somebody's custom from the fifties that was updated again around 1963.

The grille kinda bothers me, but surprisingly the Riviera headlights look at home there.
Cool old custom. Thanks for posting it.

I know my mother told me that if I couldn't say something nice...but, that front end treatment is just wrong!

    I'm sorry Mom!

The car I was talking about was a Crown Victoria, might not be this one.

That's not the car Starbird built for Ron Ortner. I just remembered, that one was a Crown Victoria. The photo you posted almost looks like a 56 Merc.

What's up with the Rivera ends and the pop-up headlights???

Why didn't they use '65 Riviera "clamshells"?

  15. Cleatus's treatment looks much better. I think it's a Merc also. The back looks Mercish.

I agree that most, if not all, of Starbird's work is Butt Ass Ugly. His show in his home town has gone way down hill. I don't like saying negative things without saying something positive about him, He has made a name for himself and made money at building and customizing cars. Wish I could do that. He got his start here in Wichita, so its only logical that he put his hall of fame in.....Afton ,OK WTF. The Titus Bros. they're work is great. Elden will be missed.

  19. Is it me or does that thing have Superbird/Daytona pop up lights in the header panel?
