Didn't Gene Windfield have a '67 Chevy ramp truck with a mild chopped top, and sleeping area under the ramp?

Quite a contrast. I'd guess that you are having more fun than they are.

Can anyone help me find the history of this ramp truck? Stickers on the windshield indicate it attended:

    1968 World Series Championship
    1969 NHRA Nationals
    1970 World Finals
    1970 Gatornationals
    1970 NHRA Dallas Texas
    1972 World Finals

    Thanks,
    Sam

I love the 67-72 chevys i just made a deal on a 69 wrecker and have a 67 i want to make into a ramp truck. This made me want it just a little bit more being reminded of how practical it is for going to the local strips and shows.

I've been dreaming of a period correct ramp truck to haul the Scout. My concern on most of the ones I've seen is the 3000 lbs of race car and equipment might exceed the GVW. hate to step up only to be stopped at a scale or roadside check

  23. Here is my addition to all of this, its been posted on a couple of the vintage tow truck threads.

1966 Ford C-700, industrial F.E. engine, 20ft hauling deck....its a work in progress untill I get it ready to drive or sold. If its around in the spring, it'll be hauling my '65 coronet race car....(if I get that one going to)

Here's Winfield's truck in 2011 behind his shop in Mojave.
It has been chopped and, judging by the front fender, sectioned.
The bed has been lowered and the stepside fenders look like they have been modified.
Check the way they dropped the lower character line behind the door to match the lowered bed.
It would be nice to see someone do something with it.

You need to find an early 60's IH Loadstar (either conventional or cabover would work well) to turn into a ramp truck to tote the Scout around with. GVW should be in the 35,000 lb (16,000 Canadian Units) range, so you should be good to haul what ever you want. A tuned up 7.3 Powerstroke or DT-466 and Allison auto to keep the International theme going would give you good mileage and towing capability, but there is nothing wrong with an original 392 V8 or 501 ci Red Diamond 6, assuming you own stock in Shell or Exxon. Plenty of old grain haulers running around southern Manitoba that are in good shape and can be had reasonably.

  29. cool thread
been wanting to build one of these
    located 64 C60 chevy
It has the large 10 bolt pattern budd wheels, not the smaller that only uses 5 in the front, been trying to find out info on this wheel set up and if newer 22.s will fit
would make a very cool ramp truck

Here are a few that we have had. Currently use a 72 (gasp) Chev enclosed hauler. COES 005 (800x282).jpg Photo09131340.jpg
