About 25 miles from where I live. Have photos of some of my past rides here too but this is the only one I could dig up at the moment....

I had lunch here today in Des Moines. It doesn't look much like an old station, but you can see were the pump island was torn out and patched.

This is what I had. Very tasty.

That's a heartbreaker. Such a neat building, but like you said, would be incredibly difficult to repair at this point. Maybe some of it could be salvaged but the failed roof really hurts it. I wish you could have bought it before that happened.

Here is another neat one. This is in Wyandotte, Michigan. It sits on a corner lot, the building at a 45-degree angle, and the drive cuts across. Next to the building, behind the trailer in the first pic, is a lift. I grew up in the general area but never noticed this until a few years ago. No idea when it last was in operation. The pump looks '60's to me. gas station1.jpg gas station1.jpg gas station2.jpg

  7. I posted a before and after picture in the gas stations-pre 65 thread. Here is the before:

This one is about 15 miles south of Denver, just off I25. It was a Sav-O-Mat self serve station.
There was a small apartment on the property, so you paid at the window. The people got to live
in the apartment as part of their pay for running the gas station. It closed about 15yrs. ago. A
couple ran it. He was an alcoholic so they used to get into some pretty loud fights. You never
knew what to expect when you went to the window to pay..part of the entertainment....
