How many know about this old homestead auction with lots and lots of Model T and A cars and parts? Feb 12, Douglass Kansas
Here is the link to the auction: Antique Cars, Architectural Wood & Metal, Tools, Antiques, & Scrap Iron; Estate of Calvin Markel - Sundgren Realty | El Dorado, KS
Surreal...thanks for sharing @56don ...quite an incredible collection, it reminds me of a collection shared recently...
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/upcoming-auction-in-kansas.1217224/#post-138980750 That's old news I started (I think), but good to refresh for people interested.
I know there are some treasures in there amongst all the rusted stuff, but it seems such a waste to accumulate all that stuff just to let it sit there and rust away.
Another auction with some car stuffs my brother sent me today: https://www.hameleauctions.com/auct...W¿DkjlF7Z2SHIhHm7IfbfVJOU49Gf0oFZM0oOcqiG8Blk
Thanks for sharing the video. That reminded me of my grandfathers farm, and woods back in the 60's. As a kid I loved playing with all that old stuff. Farmers would never get rid of anything. They just pulled their old cars, trucks, and tractors back in the woods. Then just let them rust in peace. Now we see them as treasure's. But when my grandad got old. He called the junk man to come, and clean up all that old junk.
This guy was a real cowboy the Rootin' Tootin' type, Someone should buy the property complete as is & open a theme park at $10 a head....................
Auction will be tomorrow! My brother was an auction friend of Calvin Markel. It is an outdoor auction, and the temperature will be COLD.
Beard yes, no problem with my eyebrows, . Pretty sure the 34 sedan went for $3500 (+10%), very rusty quarter panel. The roadster in the last picture above $2400 (+10%), it's on the trailer outside, my son bought it. Wanted to write down all the prices but didn't want to expose my fingers that long. My opinion is most went quite high considering condition or maybe I'm just a cheap ass. Hope auction website shows results.
Looking at the pre auction photos it looked like they figured to sell a lot of that stuff by the pile or lot. You never know about prices at an auction like that, either stuff goes cheap because the auction people didn't know enough about it or in some cases care or it goes sky high because a few guys have been lusting after cars, parts and other stuff for years .
its friggin cold all over the country lately, high of -6 here today. weather plays a big part in auctions, auctioneers get cold and wet too. Kansas this time of year could be fairly pleasant, but not so these last couple weeks. i wasnt there, but from auction experience i would guess they were selling alot of stuff by the pile just to get the day over with. they like to make money, so get the best bid on vehicles, but that pile of stuff, maybe one "choice" bid, and then lets get moving. in my youth, that was the best, buy the piles for cheap in crummy weather. today? not so much. sheds are full, ambition is fading, selling parts is a pain in the ass, so let the younger folks get the deal
I've been to a lot of auctions and it seems the crappier the weather the more people show up. I know it doesn't make sense, but then again most of the junk I've brought home doesn't make sense.
Pretty much how it happened except they put a minimum price of $25 on anything you wanted to pull from the pile. Assume they wanted to discourage it somewhat to speed auction up. If no one else does I can post more pictures later today when I get home, still at motel in Kansas.
just spoke to a friend who was there, driving home, so brief talk. 26-27 roadster, beat up, rusty, missing deck lid, brought 2800. i'll get some more out of him later. he said not too cold !! ,tuff Minnesotan i guess, tuffer than me
