Customs Old Custom - 1936 Ford Chopped 3w Coupe Packard Grille

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Nicks Hot Rod Garage, Oct 6, 2011.

  1. I recently went to see Scott and Brian, at Deluxe Speed Shop in Denver, for their BBQ season ender. Scott had told me about his newest project, an old custom '36 3w coupe. I was anxious to see it. He doesn't have much history, and I offered to post a write up on the HAMB for him. So here it goes......

    The Story....

Scott recently bought the car from an older gentleman in northern Colorado. That man bought the car in 1957. He relayed a story to Scott that, "the Barris brothers in California" had done some work to the car before he bought it in 1957.

The car in the following pictures is not exactly like it was in 1957. Scott has added a few things to get the car mocked up. The hubcaps are an added treasure, originally on Johnny Bandimere Sr's T roadster (see pic on cork board below) and believed to be built by George Duvall. The skirts, bumpers and seat have also been added. The louvered stock hood, grille, and side panels came with the car. Scott has the Packard grille/shell and custom hood stashed in the back room. A timeless example of the early custom days.

As for paint, it has several colors that are layered, at the bottom is the original Washington Blue, a Burgandy, a Turquoise, a Red, and the Grey/Black on top.

If anyone recognizes the car, post the details. Any leads, post them. this car is a fantastic example of an old custom, I look forward to seeing it on the road.

    Enjoy!!

Scott said the tail light lenses and rings are 49-50 Pontiac, and he doesn't know what the buckets are, but they do not appear to be Ford.

The Packard grille is not currently on the car, but rather safe in the corner of the shop.

Here's a shot of the inside of the car, the chop is so clean. There is only one vertical slit on the bottom side of the chop to bring the panels into line. Very Clean, not an amateur job.

The chop was so clean, all the welds are 1st class, it appears seamless.

To the far right there is a pic of Johnny Bandimere Sr's T, unfortunately I didnt get a very good shot of it.

  4. The "Lasalle" grille is actually early 40's Packard Clipper.

I'd really like to see what it looked like with the Packard grille and custom hood, looks like very nice workmanship was done when it was built. Would be great to see it restored to the way it was originally built, or at least close.

Amazing. No matter which grille, this car is killer. I hope he sticks with the "early custom" theme.
Please post updates when they become available.

It the Packard grill going back on?
It'd be a shame to split theme up after all this time.

  15. My goodness that thing is cool. I'll have to make a trip over there to see it in person.

The Packard grille needs to go back on. But if he doesn't want to use it I would be interested in buying it and building a ford behind it.

  18. Wow. Perfect wheel/tyre/stance/chop. Bring it back; Pastel turquoise/saddle tan/'40 dash, '36 or '40 wheel..

  19. Radness. I too would like to see it with the Packard grille. I bought a '41 grille a few years ago in case I'm ever lucky enough to find a '36 Ford to put it on!

That's a 3w I'd love to have. Looks like the previous owner kept it out of the Colorado elements, too.
