Well I posted about this problem BUT I was wondering even further if I could get some input about this problem. As you can see in the photos it looks pretty bad.I am NOT a body man so therefore I REALLY dont want to mess with trying to make it better.I was wondering..( seeing this Coupe is getting a hair cut ..) if I could just start the chop and send this to someone who knows body work and can fix it for me..? Anyone on here know enough to fix this for me..?
Damn...I'd love to have a body that that was the worst part of! Don't take this wrong, because I am no body man either, but, if you can't fix that, do you suppose you should tackle the chop? Or is someone else doing that? Maybe they can help out? It looks like a pretty nice body, and A bits are fairly cheap...I say give a stab it with hammer and dolly, welder and grinder... Worst case, you just need a couple patches.
Yeah, I agree. That is a fairly easy fix. you have what appears to be solid sheetmetal to start with. get a hammer & dolly & start tapping. Join a forum like Metalmeet.com & you will find all kinds of suggestions & tips on how to fix that.
I don't know shit, but it looks like it has been stretched up at that point. I would be tempted to cut a slit at the highest point and pull the metal back smooth, and weld it up. Also, heating that area might shrink the metal back. Dude, you got some creepy shit in that garage. Rich
Listen to these guys, you will definitely want to fix that first and get it all squared up before the chop. If this is something you plan on doing yourself i suggest joining a metal-fab group on here, the web, or buying some instructional books/videos before attempting the repairs/chop on your car.
Now is the time to fix it. You need the doors on and everything lined up, secured and braced before starting the chop. All body work that could effect any panel alignment should be done before the chop. The chop is going to require a higher skill level than what is needed to straighten this panel. So, if you need help with this, you should probably be seeking help with the chop too.
There are side brace beams that are wood along with the roof bows. If mine I would install those and force the metal to shape as much as possible by graceful bending and then hammer and dolly. This would be a buck of sorts. be sure to bolt the wood in. If you are using metal bracing you will have to imagine the proper line. If the other side is clean use it for a model.
LMAO...yeah,there is some creepy shit still left in my garage BUT it scares the shit out of my neighbors and they hate me anyway,so its kinda of a payback... NEXT question...is there ANYONE in or close to Dearborn,Michigan that can come over and help me with this..? I will pay you for your time...Food..beer...money..? Let me know, and AGAIN..the HAMB comes through.
i don't think its repairable It's not all rotted! like here in the northeast. I think you should put it in salt water for about 6months first, that will soften it up
Yup, I'll second that. Mine was pretty bad in the panels above the doors when I got it, I cut them off, worked them over with a hammer and dolly, welded them back on, and when the wood was installed it looked a lot better.
