“GOODNIGHT SONG” by Tears for Fears

    Hello,

We have listened to all of the Tears for Fears Collection of songs. They are one of our favorite groups. When this song came out, we were in our weekly drives up to Santa Barbara to see my brother in the last stages. It was something that made us feel warm and happy, although it was a sad destination and visit. Cruising down the coastline from Santa Barbara homeward and the sun shining on the blue Pacific, with this song playing was a heart warming conclusion to the visit(s).

When I made a VHS tape of our Willys Coupe racing at Lion’s Dragstrip, it was the highlight of our visit. VHS was the method in those days and I left the tape there in his room for constant viewing. It was made from our 16mm films, which have mysteriously disappeared from the box of original films. The VHS tape also disappeared from my brother’s room as things started to close down. I even played the Tears for Fears album for him as we watched the Willys Coupe. (this original VHS tape and the 16mm color film have mysteriously disappeared from our possession.)

It was a sad time, but the song made us feel a little better each time we played it while cruising up the coast or back down the coast from our long road trip to Santa Barbara from Long Beach.

Now, it is part of our IPod touch playlist for those pre-pandemic road trips that took us to and through Santa Barbara to all points North. The song, melody, and lyrics just fit the time and place with memories of those days, long gone.

    Here on the stage
    The time has come
With the strains of 'Be My Angel', of rock in two four

Time may keep alive that old swan song
    That we've been playing forever
'Til the time maybe right to say goodbye
My voice is aching, I'm tongue-tied
And the sounds we are making are so uninspired

    Goodnight song, played so wrong
Blame the crowd, they scream so loud, so long

    Get some honesty

Take the best of me and then the rest let go
In every situation with it's tireless rage

Step outside the cage and let the real fool show
I should have stayed 'round to break the ice
I thought about it once or twice
But nothing ever changes unless there's some pain
    And our

    Goodnight song, played so wrong

Blame the crowd, they scream so loud, so long
    Goodnight song, played so wrong
Blame the crowd, they scream so loud, so long

My all time favorite “at speed” tune is SIX FEET OF SNOW by Little Feat A true 120 MPH lick! It’s good I don’t have a player in the ‘32.
