    Hi!

"Floating" Oil pump Pickup...Or what is this?
Can not find a same model..?

The oil pick up is constructed to be able to move up n down.

What do you think? Maybe a common detail, but Ive never seen it before.

    Thanks!

  5. The 265 that was in my 56 (someone but a 55 265 in it before I got it) had that pickup on it.

  6. good idea until the engine gets some age and some gunk inside. then they stick at the top and the oil level gets down !! >>>>.

  7. FYI, you can mount a standard M55 oil pump pick up/pressure plate to a 55 style pump. Then you can use the standard pick up tube that most a SBC use.

It's designed to float above the sludge that normally built up in older engines from using non detergent oils and dusty unpaved roads.
Replace it with a solid pick up or weld that one in a fixed position, its an unnecessary feature.

Disassemble it, clean it up, reassemble, and use it. It's probably not the easiest thing to find in Sweden anyway. DO NOT weld it, for two reasons; first it's designed to function as a pivot, and the heat may weaken the pressure spring. Might want to "shim" the spring with a single washer to help restore some lost tension, and increase the oil pressure. Butch/56sedandelivery.
