I have an oil pan on my 350 sbc and I do not know if it is a 4 quart or 5 quart. I do not trust the dip stick. Pictures on the internet seem to imply it is a 4qt due to the dimples in the pan..... I put five quarts of oil in before I gave this a thought. Any ideas and or do I need to drain a quart out if it is a 4 qt pan? Thanks.

I'm not aware of any SBC that calls for 4 quarts, but you may see reference to filling four quarts and one for the filter. I prefer to fill a new filter with oil, add the remainder of that quart and four more to the pan. If your dipstick is off then mark it appropriately after starting the engine and letting the oil settle.

Thanks, this is what I did, just need to mark the dip stick. Just wanted to be sure.

five quarts when you change the filter.

Get a new OEM dipstick and tube, and maybe you can trust it.
