Literally. . . I was pulling into the local grocery store parking lot the other night and heard a couple of loud bangs. Thought it came from the back end, so I was crawling around looking underneath and found nothing amiss. Got up the next morning, walked out to the car and saw that I was wrong. The top piece broke off a last summer. This was a Posies spring that had been on the car for twenty years or so.
The 3rd helper being broken for so long likely caused the main too much stress and snapped it. You should have replaced it right away, probably wouldn't have happened. Glad nobody was hurt though...
the view of the broken main leaf looks like it had an inclusion.... (different coloured section)... may have been there for years...
Thanks HRP! That's what Kristopher from Posies said. He thought it broke because of the earlier break putting too much stress at that spot on the main spring. I ended up getting a spring from SoCal as they were local and I was up against the wall time wise. (It was cheaper too.)
