Can't do much bodywork due to rain so got to thinking about an interior light, wanted something to continue the theme.
Found a nice milk lense on ebay so that was a start

Next up I plasma cut some rings out of 1/8" aluminium sheet and cleaned them up on the lathe. These were welded together to leave a return for the lens to sit in.

Next holes were drilled for rivets

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1447448820.732423.jpg

Here it is with the lense fitted.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1447448849.103017.jpg

Next a base was made up and welded and a bulb holder attached

Heres the finished light minus the lense as I knocked it off the bench and it shattered into a million bits !!! Luckily I found another on ebay a few minutes ago

I'm just asking but has anyone out there got a spare milk lens 4 inch diameter or I could work with one slightly smaller ???
The replacement I got turned out to be slightly oval !!!

The replacement light lens showed up but was slightly smaller so slight modification called for, I spun up a ring to hold the lens and then welded it into the body, the pics tell the story, next step is to get it vapor blasted.

You have become quite a master at detail, thanks for the continued tech.
So, here's an idea; that knob that is labeled "blower", how about hooking that up to an electromgagnetic clutch on the supercharger drive, ala Mad Max.
Ya, I know, I need to get a life huh.

looks like it is from a 49 ford car dash with the heater option.

Xmas time again so found a bit of time for my own project, I pulled dash out to prep it for paint and looking at it thought it looked a bit bland, so decided to give it a bit more character.
    This how it looked

first job was to chop out the instrument section

Next I cut some 1.5mm aluminium sheet into 2 pieces, first one as a backing sheet and the front, then these were tig welded together around the outer edge. I recently invested in a new Miller Dynasty 210 tig welder and one of the really useful functions of this machine the the arc frequency control so this was wound up to 300 and away we went, turned out pretty good for time use.

I would normally of metal finished the faces before welding but completely forgot to do it but no problem as it will be vapour blasted shortly, the welded edges were blended & fettled to a nice radius and holes drilled for rivets.

While I was on a roll I thought I would tackle the lower switch panel, thought it was gonna be a fiddly taxing job but it went easy, don't often get that happen !!!

First job was to cut a couple of strips of 1.5mm aluminium and drill the switch holes

Next I cut 2 slots out

Once cleaned all the edges up the top was put over the bottom plate and the various switches replaced, I havn't welded the edges yet as I ran out of gas and all the suppliers are shut bacause its bl00dy xmas !!!

Brilliant thinking you do making these parts. Most of us would have just made a flat plate and never even have the idea for a simple surround.

Have been limiting my responses to this thread lately so as not to irritate everyone (by saying the same thing over and over). I keep hearing this British accented voice in my head saying "Brilliant!"
Count me on the "Love it" side.
