Event Coverage Official 2016 Meltdown Drags Thread - What are you doing to get ready?

do you have power to the headlights? that's a good quick indicator of the battery condition and if you have a ground. I have a load tester to check the battery condition. if its good its just a simple matter of checking to see if you power at the starter and switch. if that checks out then it may be the starter itself. there are a lot of smart guys that will be on the grounds don't worry we will get it running. no one wants to see a car parked due to problems. just get it there safe.

 

Indianapolis gas stop. One more gas stop in Bloomington, IL then 10 grand to the promised land! Should get to the track around 6:30! View attachment 3272318

Well, we were happily cruising toward Byron until this happened...that was the inside driver side tire on the motor home we affectionately call Wanda. Thankfully it blew out between Fithian and Ogden IL while we were in the right lane and we were able to limp 3 miles to the State Route 49 exit where we found a nice old lady who directed us to the farmers down the road. One of them came down the road who happened to be a stock/super stock racer and Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick's nephew and asked if we needed help. When we explained the situation, he reeled out the air hose from the compressor in the back of his truck and carried over a neumatic bottle jack and helped us change the tire in a fraction of the time we would have had to wait for some professional roadside assistance! During our conversation we also found out he has CP pistons in his motor! The tread that came off took out the fuel filler tube and a chunk of the grey water tank. The sh*tter tank is all good thankfully and the Scarlet Lady riding on the trailer behind us didn't eat any of the road gators that the motorhome gave birth to! (Just passed the Lowhorns and their Falcon in a traffic jam on I74 btw) Also received a call from Dave VerSchave, our Saturday night match race competiton, who was following our posts on FB and offered to let us stop by for something to eat or drink on our way to the track! I'm not sure if he was gonna slip us something to dull our senses for the Saturday night showdown or not, but we were already commited to coming up SR 72 instead of heading up I65 and going by Dave's place near Chicago. Thanks for the invite though Dave! Only on the way to the Meltdown Drags can you experience all this, which only adds to the memories!

 

I put my registration number on today. Haha We head out at first light tomorrow.

 

Anybody have a phone number for an MDA member? Paperwork says to call if we're running late.. Put 4 tires on the trailer after shelling, 3, and 2 rims... ETA 2230..

The property that I'm staying at is very cool. This is the original Byron schoolhouse, before they switched to 3 separate buildings. This building was moved to this property long ago. Heading to the track soon...
