Event Coverage Official 2016 Meltdown Drags Thread - What are you doing to get ready?

  1. Water wetter is basically a surfactant to release molecular water tension and becomes slick if it gets spilled on a track!

    Plain water is the best!

So the fuel cell is mounted as per NHRA requirements, the pump is mounted and wired, and tomorrow morning I'm going out to mount the regulator and rough in the lines from tank to pump, pump to regulator, and regulator to carbs.
Also going across the river to the States to pick up my flywheel and belts that haven't expired yet.
The NHRA's rules on belts are horseshit by the way.
I've got a brand new set in the car that have never been used, but they came out of the box from the supplier with only a few months left on the cert.
That was last year. Now I have some perfect belts that are perfectly useless.lol!

Just a side note but I always use my click type torque wrench and recommend it on u bolts. To many variables and the only way to get them to spec and all the same

Spec on my car is only 60-65 with 1/2" bolts but go up to 70.

    James,
I was afraid I wouldn't get the belts back in time if I sent them out to be re-webbed,and the pump has a canister filter built in.It saved me the expense of buying a separate filter, fittings, etc, then having to figure out where to mount all that stuff.
This way it's just on piece and done:)

    All-

Just want to clear the air on here real quick...

We have a new group coming this year, the Nostalgia AA/Gassers. These are some sweet, mean and fast cars from the Northeast. They decided to have a little fun and make a "call out" for other Blown gassers to race at the Meltdown...this is done to draw a little attention as well as make their field of cars a little larger. They also said the fastest car would get a cool $1k from their sponsor.

To ensure that people aren't getting excited over this...EVERYONE knows the Meltdown is not about competition, money or trophies...BUT we can't stop groups from doing things. Every year the Ford Y-Block club does their thing, the Great Lakes Gasser and Nostalgia Gassers have theirs, the motorcycle group does their thing, there was once a North-South shootout, and tons of side challenges. Also, we have made it clear that we WILL NOT allow in any cars that aren't pre-registered as well as any cars that don't meet the criteria.

Please just take this in good fun...my hunch is that once they come and experience the event they will approach it differently next year...

Thanks for listening and appreciate any support if people make something out of nothing...

    Lastly...two weeks to go!

They sound like a killer group of guys! I think their big claim to fame will be running all out "balls to the wall" as a representative from the group told me. Unlike some other famous Supercharged Gasser group that hides the fact that at their shows they are running on an index. When you see these guys line up, it is for real, heads up, run what your brung, hope you brought enough! A perfect fit for the Meltdowns in my opinion, can't wait!

Haven't been on line much these last few weeks due to nice weather and carb issues, but I think I have then sorted out.

Scott that is a nice looking motor OUT SIDE THE FENDERS , get er done . other wise the only racing you will be doing is a foot race to the burger stand.

James, you keep putting numbers up like that you are making the compatision tight

    Bob,
It's swinging over the fender in about 4 hours.:)
Gotta get some sleep and spend some time with Mama and Baby sometime!:)

And James could make a car run 12s if all he had to work with was a Briggs and Stratton,a big file,a crescent wrench, and a timing light.I have never seen a man who just intuitively knows what a car wants or needs to make it go fast like that man does.If I can be half the mechanic he is,I will be content:)

    Thanks for the compliment Scott.
Its just years of beating on these old parts and spending lots of time listening and asking questions to my two mentors that have been there done that.

A friend of mine is bringing my Crosley wagon. To make it more reliable in the heat I took the electric water pump drive off, added a bigger radiator and an alternator. I might not be able to make it with my Ford 6 powered dragster. Medical issues.
