Nice shifter I have the same one in my 53 chevy truck.I bought it from a friend at work that had it on the shelf for awhile...
It's not really the easiest thing to set. It reminds me of fiddling with a Holley carb. Once you get it set in one spot I feel like you are just going to keep on fiddling with it. Beautiful truck!
Yes it took awhile to get mine set because of the long travel from park to low gear I wanted it as far away from the dash as I could get it an still be able to put it in low gear with my bench seat.. An I had to make spacers on my lathe to get the neutral safety switch to work like it should.. But I'm sure you know all about fine tuning parts after your very nice build you are doing... Took me 5 years to build mine ...People that have never built a custom vehicle have no idea how long it takes to fabricate every system in a vehicle...
Well I am all done. I will need to test drive it, but am happy after all the tweaking here and there. What sucks is that I will probably need to install all new nyloc nuts because I had to keep removing and installing everything.
I finally got the travel right so I don't have to bend the shift stick to avoid the bench seat. Sounds like I got off easy compared to what you had to do. I can see why you would have to do that work. I decided to avoid the neutral safety switch for now because of that. I am still working on my pickup 4.5 years after starting from scratch with no good experience doing much of anything like it in the past. Little by little it's coming along. Glad to hear that you actually did a lot of your own work, not many can say that.
Looks like you used the same boot that I used 17$ from speedway.. I have about 1000 miles on my truck now since I got it on the road 3 months ago and the shifter works nice .. Only a little small rattle from the really long shifter an the somewhat loose bushings where it pivots but I'm probaly splitting hairs...But It sure puts a big grin on my face when it grabs rubber hitting 2nd at half throttle an above...
Well after hurting my back I needed a project. After pinch my hands countless ones on the steering wheel and it being off color, I decided to fix the steering wheel. He are some shots of the in weld job I had to do, which was pretty extensive
I went and had the exhaust done at a local shop for a $200 and the dude did some pretty good work. I can finally hear since the decibels in the cab dropped practically in half. Here are some shots:
Well after a long time searching for a pre-1972 car as my new daily driver and finding nothing but rusty, overpriced crap in Southern California for $10k, I decided to invest that money into my truck instead. I am starting with replacing a couple sheet metal components of the bed, installing new side windows, an electric wiper conversion kit, and an upgraded disc conversion kit for the truck with bigger brakes. I will then decide on chrome bumpers, new front fenders, etc. later. Look forward to some progress soon because I just dropped $2k on random stuff and will be installing this weekend
Well the rear bed sill, tailgate, and front bed panel have been replaced. I removed the original wiper motor and accessories have been removed to prepare for the electric wiper conversion. I also purchased new windows for the doors including the wing windows, which I will install tonight. Lastly I painted my calipers and mounting brackets for the nicer, larger 12" front disc brake conversion kit to replace the lousy 9" in the front from speedway motors.
