Im building my 1962 oldsmobile cutlass as a gasser. I would love to see these and pontiac tempests, buick specials, mercury comets, or any other small odd 60s gasser pics that anyone has. I do a search and find a million novas, and falcons but I am looking for the odd ones.
Olds powered? Might be a stretch as parts are harder to come by... but blown 394s used to be a gasser staple.
Yes, it was shortened. And the guy used to drive it to local cars shows and put a bunch of concrete bags in the back to allow it to do slow speed wheelies at ease. At least it looks just like one around here about a decade ago.
Not exactly what you asked for but Koffels' Packard was one of the oddest ones out there. "Koffel’s infamous “Flintstone Flyer” was well engineered, with maximum 10% engine set-back and an easy access hood. E/Gas class win at the ’62 Nationals was but one of the big dog’s achievements. Note huge parachute at rear".
That black and gold one is cool! I started this whole project because of the primer grey car. I wonder if it has ever been painted and completed?
Sorry, but that is a street freak - NOT a Gasser! In fact MOST of what's been posted so far are not Gasser's but Street Freak's! The word Gasser has been totally prostituted.
I looked at this one many years ago when it was sitting in a field, a friend of mine's friend bought it and cleaned it up, not sure whatever happened to it.
Jim, I like your thinking! Those GM mid 60's compacts were such great ideas, I say "Y Not"? They pop up occasionally, usually as street freaks, but they could go all the way Gasser with the right amount of work (meaning a full frame, adequate cage, suspension and drivetrain). The hunt is on!!
*Real* Gas class racers used stock-width rear axles and if needed, cut fenders to fit. That's one way to tell them from repurposed tubbed Pro Streeters... with a straight axle added in front to jump on the bandwagon. @JimSibley , lots more *real gassers* (although some are borderline OT) like you're looking for here: GASSERS - GEORGE KLASS REMEMBERS...
I am actually wanting a fairly tall car. Does this make it a street freak? I will be using a full frame and cage, blown big block, 4 speed and a ladder bar suspension out back. My car will see the track, and it will be nose up. I am wanting it to run in the high 10s in the quarter. I see some pretty tall cars running in the southeast gasser association, are these street freaks or real gassers?
Here are a few I found. I was actually looking for one I have seen multiple times and taken pics of but didn't find it. These cars make killer gassers.
