    At some time Ford made a block with NO OUTSIDE TUBE, always wondered what if anything was modified inside the block with that system. Bob

    Dealers made good money on those bodies. Note the fact that #245A was a Speedster body offered for MODEL A CHASSIS! This is a dated Morton & Brett catalog form January 1929

    Yes that is the B motor
    It is completely different internals
    Crank rods and pan
    It has an oil galley under the lower portion of the valley cover that directs oil to the mains and cam bearings
    Note though it is not pressurized as there is a large port hole in the front end
    You can plug this and add restrictors and fully pressurize the motor
    This is done when you want to start making more power

    You don't need to cut it out, it will pop out. The ridges stamped in the pan and tray hold the tray in place. They can be pried out where the oil pump extends through the dipper tray, a wooden baseball bat or similar works well levered against the outside rail of the pan. Sometimes they will pop out if you drop them about four feet upside down and flat onto a hard surface like a paved driveway or concrete floor.

    Check the Ford Barn, must have been there where the tubeless A block was discussed. I know the differance between the A & B blocks, the tubeless A was a short production and rare feature. Bob

    What is along side the MILLER? Looks like a Robert Roof Overhead for the L29 Cord. Bob

    The motor in the avatar is a Miller 8cyl
    It should be 183 cid and this one is dohc

    The WHITE overhead with ROCKER ARMS behind the MILLER stands TALLER that the twin cam MILLER blocks .

    @johnneilson I agree. Sure looks like intake and 4 carburetors to me. Looks like it might be Ed Winfield looking at it. Seems like a set of Winfields on there to me. Could be Bud Winfield too, hard to say for sure with only part of his head in the picture.

    I cannot find the original picture to even replace this avatar.
    In most cases, the Millers had downward facing manifolds and the carbys updrafts so it might look funny.
    Mark Dees' book, The Miller Dynasty has a few pics of downdraft setups for cars.
    The history is fantastic, another good book on the subject is Gordon White's book Offenhauser.

    That is one rare photo, as you state most MILLER engines used updraft carburetors, never thought that was two intake manifolds on that small photo. Bob

    A pic to help others with the understanding, If you look to the right side of the pic, that is the front of the motor, if you look in the middle you will see where the oil pump drive goes into the block, there is a tube running horizontally to the right to hit the first dam, It fills that one, runs over to the mid, then all the way to the left and that's where it hits the oil return tube to go back to pan, also side note, on the right there is a large hole to the front of the motor, this is to fill the dipper trays, it must be open and clear to keep oil flowing to the trays.

    For what it's worth, I found a Ford dealer selling a speedster body advertisement in Secrets of Speed Society magazine and used it as a document to register my 1931 Ford/Rootleib in Colorado!

    ^^^^^ That truck drove by my Hershey spot years ago, always thought it was a sedan body on the AA frame, lot more work building it from two pickup cabs. Bob

    Thanks man, much appreciated. The building itself is pretty neat. It was built in 1917, and the whole upper floor is a parking lot with a super steep ramp to get up there. There are old, single-pane windows on two sides, making it very good for photo shoots. I'll take some more photos next time I'm there.

    Thanks Ryan! I am running a Holley fuel pump down underneath the floor on the passenger side. Looking back, the whole thing was way over-engineered, although it's completely hidden. IMG_3639.jpg
    Steel line was painted copper to look old.

    Although I do recommend running a pump if you have a downdraft in a hilly area, I would probably just put the pump up on the inner firewall if I were to do it again.

    Ok, So we are looking at a poured concrete wall, back then there were no reusable forms, they used 2x6 and 2x8's and made the forms on sight.
